Always impressed by bands that sound like the studio when live on stage. Eagles are just about musical perfection even on songs that I don’t like, endless perfect musical details. This song has content and message too.

I enjoyed your beautiful and soulful analysis of "New Kid in Town" by the Eagles. The song is so touching. You did a wonderful job.

Several years ago I was hired as a sub up keyboard player for an Eagle Tribute band who came to town. We played the entire Hotel California album and other Eagles hits. I was never a huge Eagles fan until I did this gig. This gig forced me to take a deep dive into the Eagles song book. They are soooo good. New Kid In Town is my favorite Eagles tune.

Hard to believe even with all the drama and infighting, they managed to produce so much amazing music. My favorite band by far.

J.D. Souther was a guest speaker at an in-service training I attended in Nashville several years ago on behalf of the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI).

He talked about New Kid In Town and described it precisely as you did…an anthem to the fact that there is always someone better and fresher coming along to knock you off your pedestal.

J.D. played and sang the song with an acoustic guitar and had everyone mesmerized. Also talked about his time hanging out and writing with Glen Frey and Jackson Brown. Fantastic experience for all the aspiring songwriters in attendance.

This is truly one of my favorite Eagles songs and quite possibly one of my favorite songs of all time. The harmonies.. the modulations 2/3 of the way through. Impeccably crafted and recorded.

Every thing the Eagles performed they performed it to perfection.

I always loved "New Kid In Town" since I was a child. And I completely agree, I have been aware of how absolutely exceptional they sound in concert (I've only watched videos), it is something that is rare and that I appreciate so much.

Whenever I listen to this song, when it reaches the "tears on your shoulder" bit, I always think "this is my favourite moment in all the Eagles' body of work".
I always maintain that opinion, right up until "..and you're still around.... oh my, my", where I think "oh, no...wait... this!"
I hold true to that for almost 20 seconds, until the A to Am and the "oooh"s that follow.
I feel so fickle.

Edit: Actually, thinking about it, that pretty much epitomises the theme of the song.

My wife and I were 70's high school kids. Last May we flew from AZ to Austin to finally see them live at ages 63 and 62. Now I am a retired coach, principal, county superintendent. I've seen it all and believe me - big boys don't cry. The second song was Vince Gil singing New kid in town. By 8 measure in I was absolutely in tears. I turned to my wife and said...You didn't see this! Man it was great!

I’ve always felt this way about this tune. From Composition, harmony, performance, lyrics, and production - unmatched. Best intro, I jump out of my seat every time that song kicks off

really cool analysis of one of my favourite Eagles tracks. I was lucky enough to see them twice in the UK, in 2001 and 2008 on Farewell 1. Bloody wonderful. Favourite bit is when the first aaah's come in.... will she still love you, when youre not around... rips my heart out every time I hear it. its the line that really resonates. Just sublime.

Thanks so much for this, Aimee! I was singing the high harmonies with you the whole time; Way above my range, and I just don't care. I have loved this song from the day the single broke on AM radio. As for the IP issues with the record companies, I hope one day they will realize just how many of us are going to watch a review/analysis and instantly go to our favorite music service and listen to the song AND the rest of the catalog for several hours because this music is a part of who we are; Money in the bank: They should be paying you instead of blocking you. With that said, I'm off to drown in a sea of Eagles music. Thanks again!

Greetings from the UK, big Eagles fan here, in fact they are my fav band ever. I prefer the pre 1977 line-up, especially the period 1972 - 1975, but pretty much everything they have touched (including the solo outings from Henley, Frey, Walsh etc) has been amazing. What a band, truly the best of the best, and such an American icon! Great channel Aimee!

I've loved this song of theirs so much! Probably my top favorite as well, but "I Can't Tell You Why" is great, too. I enjoyed hearing your appreciation of this and sharing all the wonderful moments along the way in all the fills. Thank you, Aimee!

I really enjoyed your video, thank you Aimee for such valuable insights into this musical gem of a song. I have been an Eagle fan since I was fifteen. I am now in my late fifties and I still cannot get enough of their songs. Their sound, their unmistakable harmonies, their lyrics and the way they arranged all the instruments within their songs was simply phenomenal. Please do some more videos on other Eagle songs. Thanks again!

Wow Aimee! You knocked it outta the park with this one. That’s one thing about the Eagles is that all of there hits are so good.
I’ve never seen the Eagles, but I saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for the first time in 2012. I sang every song I knew as loud as I could with the rest of the crowd. It was like a spiritual release. I imagine the Eagles might have been the same way for you.
Love this. Great job.
