The when you think of a ThinkPad the first thing you think of is the TrackPoint but Lenovo seems to disagree and are releasing a so called ThinkPad class device which does not have a TrackPoint for some reason even though they already have another brand for that called ThinkBook

the weirdest thing about a nippleless thinkpad is that the nipple is still there in the logo

ThinkPad without a clicktoris? Not gonna buy that!

For me, it's not really about the trackpoint. But having the physical left and right click is a godsend. It's just so much better than relying on the finicky single or double finger clicks on trackpads.

At this point you might as well get a Framework

i own a thinkpad that doesn't have a trackpoint. it's the 11e model, but since it's a low end device for education probably nobody noticed it's existence. it could be that there are even older models without trackpoints

For me, a ThinkPad needs few things:
- TrackPoint nub
- TrackPoint buttons
- old-style display hinge (the one on top of the frame and not inside), it is just more durable

I am running P52 and I am really missing separate F-keys (at least separate volume controls). I want a durable ThinkPad that I can tweak and have full Linux support. It should not be that much to ask for.

Is the sentence "clearly, it's a touchpad world" business speak for "we want to sell the same device with less features for the same amount of money"?

I thought removing the nipple is illegal

I remember when we had conferences and trainings about corporate espionage. We were taught how to use rugged laptops as blunt weapons. Those were fun times.

They should make a throwback model where they delete the trackpad and only have trackpoint

RIP, clit mouse. I know it's still only one model so far, but they could've named it anything else than a Thinkpad. -posted from corebooted T420, of course

I bought thinkpad when I went to the college and I fell in love with the trackpoint. It was so comfortable to me that I stopped carrying mouse at all. Graduated from university, gave it to my parents and it still works without any problem after like 12 years. Now at my work I have also a thinkpad, I did everything to get it instead of dells/hps like the rest of the company :D. And guess what, almost every other dell/hp laptop faced a hardware problem at some point, but my thinkpad after 3 years works perfectly. It survived tea flood on the keyboard (drain holes, smart) and 1, 5m drop with some really minor damage considering how it hit the floor. I managed to break down arrow key somehow, but it was replaced under warranty.

I think it was just a matter of time as nobody I knew actually used it beside me. At least touchpads are so much better nowadays than 10 years ago.

Years ago I gave my daughter my old IBM Thinkpad. Last year she gave it back to me. It's ancient. It's the one with the articulated keyboard. It still works! I've got to figure out how to replace the battery. Everything else is still good.

A thinkpad without the point is like a car without the steering wheel

The day the trackpoint mouse is retired completely is the day I start choosing any other brand out of pure spite.

"What do you think about when you think about ThinkPads?"
For me it's the thigh-highs, but I knew what you were going to say

It's not a ThinkPad on that screenshot, it's just a re-branded ThinkBook.

Getting used to a TrackPoint as a touchpad user is painful, wherear getting used to a touchpad as a TrackPoint user is painful.

ThinkPad forgot why the dot of the "i" in their own log is red:
You see their logo, you notice the red dot of the "i", you think of the nub
That is called branding, right? Then why is the dot of the "i" still red after removing the nub it represents?! I understand they can't easily change the trademark logo, but the disconnect will definitely impact their reputation, as in, they will be remembered as "that company that removed an iconic feature"
