I have a 4 year old male kangal. Not just anyone can own one. And grooming tho it may seem simple, but due to the double coat they shed year round. All and all he is the most extraordinary dog I've ever seen without schooling

They also love to dig! I can tell this activity gives my Kangal great pleasure. So if you have a well manicured suburban lawn and you have a Kangal dog, I hope you will get a kick out of his/her landscaping style.

You have to be the top dog with this breed out they will rule you and that is dangerous. Realize their nature and what they're wired for. Use that knowledge for training and it can be used to your advantage. I know my boy would defend me with his life.

They live to explore new places. Great wanderlust.

This dog is not for apartment dwellers or the faint of heart.

Do it right and they are the best big, protective love bugs ever!

You missed the most impressive fact - they have a bite force higher than any other dog and even lions!

We just saved a Kangal tajt was dumped on the side of the road. Didn't know what we got ourselves into, but so glad we kept him. He's only @ 4 months, but so super sweet. 😊

Socialization, socialization, socialization!
I'm a trainer and conventional training is well suited for this dog, provided engagement and enrichment are included and I'll say it again, socialization!

A friend has one, he is a big teddy bear. He effortlessly jumped over the back of the couch to come see me. It made me wonder if a 6 foot fence would even hold these dogs.

Yes big bite force...and they need lots of water...and you missed getting them from young pups to be around other dogs so they arent so aggresive

Nature? Yes, an affectionate big dog. Good loving bonded dogs by balanced loving owners. Lots of exercise. ..many walks a day...cooked chicken beef a bit of kibble etc

These dogs are for experienced dog owners, who can handle a strong and intelligent dog like the kangal! They are NOT for first time dog owners or those not strong enough to hold a dog that size.

Dogs need socialization, training and A JOB. Many creatures that misbehave in apartments are great animals once they have a role and space. also, I would love a mix of this and something else less prone to hip dysplasia .

First and foremost, you must make them understand they are not Alpha. Generally, they will only establish primary bonds and submission to one person. We have a wonderful but powerful and scary (when in full KANGAL mode) 20-month-old boy who at 31.5" and 130 lbs. pays attention to the Wife and is protective of her but is lazy to non-compliant when facing temptation, with me he responds very quicky and directly. He sees the Wife and Granddaughter as his primary charge and is watchful and protective to fault at times. They need a job, and they will create one if you don't. Ours thrives out of doors but sleeps in front of our bedroom door keeping guard, unless the granddaughter stays overnight then he sleeps in front of her crib. Amazing animals but they are no for those wishing a badass, personal protection dog, or simply an accessory or distraction. They are sensitive and can make the most incredible family dog, but they must be raised properly, or you can have a real serious problem, because they can be an incredibly vicious and their violence of action is overwhelming. I've experienced it personally and I now have much greater respect for their roles as "Guardians".

Not all dogs shown in this video are Kangals. There were some Malakli (Turkish mastiff), Boz (robust built Turkish shepherd dog) and Akbash ( no facial black mask)

I own four Kangal dogs. They are truly incredible animals. With them by my side, I can walk around Kastamonu forests without fear. I know that if there was any danger, they would protect me to the death.
