Ukraine counter-offensive is 'turning point of the war', says deputy PM • FRANCE 24 English

A lightning Ukrainian counter-offensive has recaptured 6,000 square kilometres of territory in the country's northeast and south since the start of September, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. In an interview with FRANCE 24, Ukraine's deputy prime minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration said that this advance was the turning point, not only of the Russian invasion that started on February 24 but also "of the war that started in the spring of 2014". Olga Stefanishyna spoke to Marc Perelman from Kyiv.

Its true what she is saying.when someone knows exactly russian capabilities, its the ukrainians selves coz they have worked a long time w/the russians.in this case, the only army who can defeat the russian army are only the ukrainian army.of course modern weapons from the west play a great role.

Zelenskyy is the hero Europe needs. He does things and not just debate like EU politicians. As a german I'm ashamed that the west is being so passive. We send weapons but not enough and very late. The west tried appeasement against the russian threat just like the allies did to my home country of germany in WW2 and the outcome is the same. They annexed the Krim, supported terrorists in eastern ukraine and the west still tried to de-escalate. It's sad that the west didn't learn. Appeasement doesn't work against a regime like that. As an ex german soldier it's really haunting for me to witness that history is repeating in Europe. I'm just glad that my people are on the good side this time.
