Try this instead of starting fluid for your lawn and garden equipment. Its much better than Either for your small engines.

I get that this stuff is a solvent, but so is gasoline. I get that this isn't ideal for running an engine on, but it's not running fluid, it's starting fluid.

I run a mower repair business Apr - Oct, and I literally use this stuff every single day, to start at least 4-5 mowers, over the past 8 years, and have been using it as a mechanic for 27 - 28 years, and have never had an issue. I use it as a diagnosis tool, and to start mowers. I start many mowers each day. If they don't start after one or two pulls, they get a shot if quick start.

When working at Sears, several years ago, I used quick start to run a few engines on trying to damage them, using over a full can on one engine, and it didn't damage anything. I also poured water, pepsi and put candy and all sorts of other things into the opening of the carburetor... Even a chunk of donair meat. That engine stumbled and sputtered, but worked 100% afterwards. I. wouldn't recommend this on a daily basis, but people are way too melodramatic when it comes to engines.

I would argue that starter fluid is WAY better than gasoline, as it evaporates so quickly, that it doesn't wash any oil at all. When you use a primer or a choke on a gasoline engine, you are getting liquid gasoline going into your engine, and this 100% will wash oil away. This is one reason that you need to change your oil frequently in gas engines (especially utility engines) as the oil becomes contaminated quickly.

I’ve found that using 2 stroke fuel (32:1) is really good for starting old car/truck engines that have been sitting for years, no ether detonation and the cylinder walls get a coat of oil even if the motor doesn’t fire straight away.

that is a great idea. any other great ideas? how to dispose of bad gasoline?

The OLD MAN at Eliminator Performance here Rooster saying you are 100% on this issue. Another issue is the down and dirty quick carb cleaning being done online using carb cleaner and in many cases this stuff makes rubber parts swell ie: bowl gaskets and B&S and Techumseh needle valve seats. This quick carb cleaning may get you started but once the seat swells it holds the needle valve up higher and thus the float is beyond the level point and actually starts to limit the fuel in the bowl while the needle valve no longer seals all causing severe problems for your small engine. Basically we ultrasonic clean all our carbs and if we use carb cleaner all rubber parts are removed first.

I have a Case VAC gas tractor in the yard now that I ruined with starting fluid. Washed the cylinder sleeves and the rings stuck.
Tough lesson learned.

Yeah some diesels come equipped with it from the factory the issue is not starting fluid it's the improper use of starting fluid it will absolutely cause ZERO damage when used correctly sure a little mix gas is ok when you have something that sat over the winter but you get something that has sat for years with stuck rings you need it even if it's got 20 lbs of compression from sitting for years you can bust one off on ether and as soon as the expansion of the aluminum faster than the rings can break them loose and save the engine gas isn't going to ignite under those conditions and will most likely flood it don't mislead people starting fluid when used properly is just fine I've used acetylene on equipment just pull the air filter crack the valve on the torch about halfway and hook your welder to it on about 50 amps DC and it'll bust right off

Great showmanship, and not BAD advice to use mixed fuel, but you don't get bend rods or scuffed pistons / cylinders from using starter fluid. It is WAY more practical, and safer, for the average person to use a can of starter fluid, than to mix up a 2 cycle mix.

For your health, for fire safety, for the sake of saving time, for practicality, using a can of quick start makes WAY more sense than mixing up a can of fuel and oil when you need to start something. That gas will be good for a few months, if you are lucky, and then you have to do it all over again.

Quick Start, for the win.

Awesome video. I have a 2 stroke outboard that is hard to start when cold. I normally use a little starter fluid to start it. I try to use the smallest amount. I know it is not good for the engine, but I didn't realize this was an option until recently. Not yet sure of the root cause of the problem, but I was wondering if something like this would work for me to start my outboard, and it seems it will definatly work!

as a small engine mechanic i agree if it want start on oil gas mix it want start on starting fluid plus oil gas mix is way cheaper but starting fluid want bend your rod like that or blow plug out it will scare you piston up on 2 stroke tho cause it not got oil in it but you have to be doing it every day for years or running it off it longer just a sec or 2 that piston in pic was run with not anuff oil in the gas or on unmixed gas ( iv tested this in a junk lawn mower run a whole tank of stating fluid thew it muitble time no damage at all tested it on a junk 2 stroke with right oil mix and it did damage piston more it was oil and starting fluid dont mix well

The only starting fluid I use is starting fluid with upper cylinder lubricant that voids these issues

OK, so what do you do if you’ve just squirted it onto a paper towel or rag and cleaned around the Weedwhacker inside and now that you started it it runs like it’s gonna take off and fly is it fixable or have I ruined it?

2-stroke premix for starting and diagnosing either 2-stroke or 4-stroke is best. Then comes carburetor cleaner (less harmful than ether), then starting fluid. A shot or two isn't going to hurt the engine. Some engines, especially diesels, get "addicted" to starting fluid and won't start without it.

I have some questions. 1. What is 50 to 1 mix? 2. Do we spray it directly into the carburetor? 3. If it's 50 to 1 then what does the 50 Got in it and what does the 1 Got in it?

When you say 50-1, which part is the 50 and which part is the one? Is it 50 part gas and 1 part oil, or vice versa?
