Did You Know In CORPSE BRIDE…

There is symbolism that foreshadows the end of the film. Towards the beginning, Victor lets a butterfly go. Later on, Victor and Emily pass a butterfly as they arrive in the land of the living. Towards the end, Victor lets Emily go, and she becomes a huge swarm of butterflies. The butterflies that make up Emily are the exact same color palette as the one from the beginning, and this symbolizes Victor setting Emily free.

They let each other go.

Victor was willing to love and cherish her, die for her and make her happy. Despite him also loving Victoria. He was being selfless for her. He lets her move on, despite having put so much into wanting to marry her, knowing her and loving her.

Emily wanted to be with him, but he still loved Victoria. She was satisfied her murderer was gone and she no longer needed the validation of a groom to feel content with herself, so instead of holding onto Victor. She decided to move on, let Victor live the life he wanted.

Both start as selfish characters. Her emotionally dependent on him, love bombing and needy, him wanting nothing but to return and very manipulative. But in the end they put each other's needs above their own and what's best...

I once heard blue butterflies represent a woman who hasn't had a proper burial and her soul/spirit comes back as a blue butterfly
It's probably not true but it's a nicer way to think about a woman passing on

I searched it up and google said “she got closure so she was able to rest in heaven” it makes my heart light up. :3

The ending was actually much sweeter. They set each other free. She let Viktor go because she truly loved him and wanted what was best for him. Sometimes when you love someone, you're happy even if they are happy with someone else.

While they couldn't be together in that life, I like to think they got together in their next one.

Honestly loved victoria, like imagine being in her shoes??? I was hoping she would get a happy ending. And emily, there wasn't enough time for victor and emily to bond after victor falling in love with victoria. It felt rushed. Emily was obsessed with marriage and not because she loved him. It wouldn't matter who it was who proposed. But for victoria it had to be victor, because that is who she fell in love with.

I really wish there was an alternate ending where Victor ends up with Emily at the end of the movie. No hate on the movie but still a lot of people watching today would agree

I guess I have the unpopular opinion here but I’m actually glad victor doesn’t end up with emily. People always tell me they liked her more than victoria and wanted her to be happy with victor, but like, that’s because the creators wanted you to feel that way. The movie was specifically designed to make you like emily, because the land of the living is literally grey, dull, lifeless and overall sad, whereas the land of the dead is suddenly full of color, music, cheer and ironically; life. We are allowed the chance to bond with emily and feel sorry for her, she was tricked for money, murdered too young, and has been a lonely corpse for years. We get the chance to see her personality; she is whimsical, silly, and has similar interests to victor like playing the piano. All of these things are meant to make the viewer feel like being with her would be better in general.

But then that leaves behind a whole new slew of things to think about.

We don’t get the chance to see what victoria is like. We know she is interested in piano as well, we know she is sweet, courageous and humble. But victor is taken to the land of the dead so soon that we don’t get the chance to see if we like them as a couple too. To say she is not as interesting or suitable for him is an unfair comparison, as we see so much more of emily, in a much more inviting environment.

Not to mention how hypocritical and odd it would have been of emily to have a storyline about having her chance at a happy life taken away from her only to then literally steal that very same thing away from another woman who hasn’t had her chance yet either.

Which would also mean allowing victor, a very young adult, to kill himself to marry a corpse, after only knowing her no more than a couple days and doing so almost solely because he felt bad for her even though he spent most of that time trying to find ways to escape until he thought he would lose victoria and couldn’t go back home.

The whole movie has themes about people’s lives ending (either metaphorically or literally) before they get a chance to live them:

Emily being murdered. Victor if he killed himself for her not knowing what his life could have been otherwise, and Victoria if Emily took him from her and she had to stay married to the lord only to possibly get killed by him too.

For Emily to have been the one to end up with Victor would have destroyed the entire theme and message of the movie in my opinion.

It is very tragic that Emily was killed and never gets to marry, but by the end of the movie she finds peace and is able to move on, knowing that she has now gifted two people the opportunity to have what she never did. Ultimately whether it was fair or not, she already had her chance at life and marriage, whereas Victor and Victoria hadn’t, and to take that away from them would have been incredibly selfish, which she was not.

I think the movie as it is has the best possible ending. Victor and Victoria getting to try being together, the murderer getting killed, and Emily finding peace not having to remain as a living corpse any more.

I absolutely love Emily, it just irks me when everyone I talk to says the movie “would have been perfect” if they’d ended up together. It makes me feel like they kinda missed the point lol. A bittersweet ending isn’t a bad one.

I was a bit scared of this movie when I was a kid but I would be a bit confused and happy when she turned to butterflies. Realizing he deserves the love he wanted to marry, and not her. But he was willing to marry her after some time when it's close to the end. They literally host a wedding in the freaking church!

Here an good ending I thought of for the movie, somewhere in the future Victor and Victoria have an baby girl when the doctor ask for the name for the baby girl, they named her Emily after the corpse bride then slowly the camera move toward the window where you see an blue butterfly flying into the sky then the scene turned to black, and the credits rolled in, and that what I got tho.

I’m glad the movie ended the way it ended. Emily never loved him, she loved the idea of being loved. Whenever she talked to him all she talked about was how she would make a better wife and how she was proposed to first. All her flashbacks involved being abandoned, left at the altar, and killed. She never saw victor as a person just a placeholder she could learn to love.

technically speaking, emily let victor go. she says in the film that he set her free, which he sort of did when he accidentally married her and fulfilled her dream. but it was only when she let HIM go that she could truly be free and move on.

While Emily may not have found true love in romantic sense, throughout the movie she experienced true love with her fellow corpses who looked out for her and protected her through thick and thin. At one point in the lyrics they sang how they vowed to protect their lovely corpse bride. True love does not necessarily need to be romance ^^
