Here are a few reasons why I almost never clean my palette!
- Much less paint wasted
- Prettier mixes
- Quite a simple technique

Payne's grey, Jane's grey, Davy's grey, and now Yanconsky's grey.

Ha, After seeing your palette the first time, my watercolor got so much better because I began to paint more looser and stopped trying to be so careful with the mixing. It almost feels like the transition between relying on a ruler and not relying on a ruler in pencil drawing. So thanks!

I am amazed that what looks like various hues and tints of black and muddy grey can turn out to look so “natural” on a canvas!

It depends on what you are doing, I like very vibrant colors so it’s definitely a no go, but I can see how it can help with more muted color pallets

Working with watercolors I’d say that’s better to have the dirty pallet if you’re trying to achieve a natural/muted painting like he said! But I’d definitely say it’s preference. I’d totally try it though, great advice!

Its called, by some "palette dirt". I learned so many cool ways to use it. You literally never wanna waste or throw away anything with crafting or art. Its all universal and can be used.
If you paint with acrylic, you can make a "wet palette" and keep your paint in the fridge for weeks. You just put a wet paper towel in a round or rectangle plastic to-go container, cut a piece of parchment paper to fit inside the container. Place parchment on top of the wet paper towel and add paint directly onto the parchment. Paint, then when you're done, lift one edge of the parchment, spritz the paper towel with more water before placing the lid on and keep it in the fridge. It will last very long.

Same I think it makes new painting look even more beautiful and unique

I think it would help to have 1 that is clean and another that isn't. That way you have both bright and mutted at your disposal for your projects.

Yes! I do the same. Really like those complex colors that you get as a result

Facts. And I save my acrylic paint in a baggy after it's become mixed. It makes a great background color and many times it makes good shading and the dark colors in nature.

Your palette is a work of art in itself😉

People complain so much about things that don't affect them at all. Beautiful paintings

I also never clean my palette, but mostly because I like how it looks with all the paint over it :)

Those works are really incredible, looks exactly like a blurred version of an image

That art looks really good, I can see how the muted colours work well

I love what you are doing here. I love creating art that uses what is on hand and allowing it to influence the direction/style you end up using, often encouraging you to experiment more and occasionally discover new ideas (I’m only a beginner so this is mainly true for me). Your work is amazing.

This is exactly what I was talking about the other day. This was a game changer for me once I saw what you were doing. One of the many things I've learned from you.

I’ve never cleaned my watercolour pallet ever since I got it and it’s so helpful it letting me constantly have a small guide on colours I want to get and just makes it really easily to get the colours I constantly use like skin tones and shadows

I find dirty palettes prettier than clean ones. Just shows that the artist really puts some work. And yes it's a money saver and I used to have a dirty palette until I had to clean it for no reason at all.
