The ride sharing business has succeeded in disrupting the car service business, growing on almost every front. The companies are responding by forming partnerships with each other and other companies.

You can also create switching costs by building a better network which means more jobs for drivers and quicker pickup for customers and the bigger you build the network the better it can be. That's why the faster Uber grows the quicker it builds an even better network.

Uber's intention is to disrupt not just the ride sharing business but other industries of transport. Uber's current goal is to build its network and network advantages to obtain a dominant position in the market. It isn't about ride sharing it's about a network of efficient transportation. The way they are choosing to construct that network is through ride sharing but in the long term any goods that can be transported on that network, Uber will compete for.
