Right Angle Splice - 90 Degree Splice - Right Angle Side Splicing 2 Ropes Together - T Splice a Rope

In this video I will show you one method (as there are a couple) of splicing two ropes together at 90 degrees. In this method the rope is woven over the strands of the other rope and then passed back down to form a back splice on itself.

Great step by step instructions!
After watching your video we used the 90°splice whilst carrying out some recent rope repairs at Center Parcs. Thanks again!

I used this splice to make a bridle for the snubber of my anchor for my sailboat. Thank you so much for posting this video!

Thanks very much for the clear tutorial. After learning this splice from your video I am using them to form the connections into the hand rail of a burma style rope bridge that's ~20m long. The handrails are in 32mm rope with a 16mm rope coming out at 90deg down to the foot rope.

Great splice Johnny. Thinking of some fun applications for this splice.

This isn't used very much but in certain situations it is the only way to get a good load sharing splice. I've seen these on heavy duty nets that required high reliability. Thanks for this. I'd forgotten how to tie these.

An Interesting splice, thanks for the video. I think Des Pawson shows a similar splice in one of his books I have. I must dig it out to see if it's the same as you demonstrate here or not.

As to its use, the thing that springs to mind immediately is starting and finishing the warps and wefts of a cargo net. That's just a guess though.

All the best,

Al

The Maritime Museum in Brisbane has an example of rigging from an old sailing ship on display. This knot appears to be tied at the end of each of the horizontal lines in the rope ladder in the tops.

Clearly presented. I have not seen that one done before.

Thanks very much for this really clear demonstration - I'd be interested to see what you do when you finish splicing, to keep it tidy. I'm planning to use this to create a central tie-up point for my inflatable kayak, so I can get in and out from high landing stages by tying up the near side to the landing stage.

Looks fantastic. I will be trying this. It's one of those things that looks great but I'm struggling to think of a use for it. Nevertheless it's a good skill to have. Thanks Johnny.

This could make a nice rope ladder. Still pondering some other uses. Thanks for the video!

Thanks John for sharing this tutorial. Maybe you can do one or two about some various sliders for ditty bags.

I used it once to make a Jacob's Ladder about 30 feet long

What knot or connection method is used for cargo nets? I on;y see pictures of cargo nets on WWII movies of troops using them to scramble off an on ships. Has container shipping eliminated cargo nets?

Can you please show this splice with 4-stranded ropes?

If one begins by creating a rope grommet, then splices a bag net beneath it, and splices a rope loop across it above — then one may have made a collapsible basket tote.
