As someone who tows frequently: You never run straps from front to back. You always run front straps from in front of the load, to the load, and then back in front of the load again. Same thing for the back. Running a strap from the front, over a load and continuing on to the back will always allow the load to shift to matter how tight you tighten them. And honestly you should always have two straps in front and two at the rear of the load. That way if a strap fails both ends are still secured and thus cannot shift forward or back.

I just drove back from Denver driving my new Rivian back to Oregon and it was my first non-supercharger experience..and it was so terrible. Every stop had half the chargers dead, spent an hour talking to EA trying to get my car to charge (ended up being that I needed to reboot the car) and then having throttling on another charger. Fun times.

I think the thing most people don't understand is nobody is trying to say that an EV truck is your first choice to tow. Clearly it is not. However most of us truck owners just like the truck size, height and general feel, and we don't tow all that often.. For people like us these EV trucks are just fine, especially if you have solar on your home like I do.

Conversations about charging strategies with Kum and Go never ceases to sound horribly horribly wrong.

Why am I so addicted to watching these EV towing challenges?? UGH! Haha. Great work guys!

I wouldn’t want to do this trip with a trailer. EA needs to get their act together - I70 is a critical corridor

"Some outlets only do one hill, we do the entire rockys" LOL, nice jab!

The lightning would have destroyed the Rivian with the Lariat Spec in this race. Really impressed how well the lightning charges even though the technical specs should indicate its slow. Thermals matter so much and the Lightning definitely can stay cool with that max tow package.

Which headlights are better on the dark rainy night?

Strapped the water tank incorrectly. Should have looped the strap around the top metal bar on both front and back. That would have kept it from shifting. Towing with weight to the back is unsafe. You can get sway.

When you were seeing the charging jump up and down at about minute 30, that was definitely the charger (Which the truck was saying too). I've been able to pull 500A on every ABB charger I've plugged into lately, BUT they can't hold it for very long. The charger will derate a bit, sometimes all the way down to 350A, and then it will often recover. My R1T will eventually derate, but the charger definitely does first. So both need improved.

I own and love our Tesla, but if folks were honest the fact is EV trucks (when towing) are not ready for that mission. I suspect the vast majority sold will be what I call URBAN COWBOYS. You know the guy driving a $80K King Ranch that will never tow anything or go off road. They might go to Home Depot to buy a few bags of mulch. Just look at the hitches when you are sitting behind one at a stop. Not a nick or scratch on it.

Maybe it's just me but there seems to be a major difference in reliability between a company who was forced to do something and a company who invested their own money on the chargers. Did the government forget to write down that the damn things actually need to work?

Kyle, is it that your wheel/tire combo is giving you worse efficiency than the Lightning?

• 21" Wheel/Tire = 314 Mile Range
• 20" Wheel/Tire = 274 Mile Range (40 mile reduction)
• 22" Wheel/Tire = 293 Mile Range (21 mile reduction)
If you had the 21's?

We're in Grand Junction & we have the 21's. Run the ride again using our truck and see if it's any better. 🙂

Non Teslas charging systems are so far behind when charging on the road. The others just don't get it. My model 3LR is scheduled for delivery in August. I am pretty excited.

Bet you could have taken off a tow strap and used it to pull the water/load towards the tow vehicle.

Nice video, thanks!
