EdgeRouter X Complete Setup with Starlink

Looking to add a 3rd party router to your Starlink satellite dish? The Ubiquiti EdgeRouter X (model ER-X) is a great place to start! In this video, I do a complete setup of an ER-X with Starlink including setup of the WAN and LAN plus a static route so that you can see your Starlink statistics and use the Starlink app.

Thank you Chris, a wealth of information from you and your channel and I have learned so much about practical networking.
I just ordered the EdgeRouter X with SPF, excited for if to arrive so I can set it up and geekout!

Glad he got this video out. I have a ship date for my Starlink for the same date we plan to move out of town. I just got my Dream Machine today and 3 WiFi 6 APs should be here next week. I plan on having wifi at both ends of the house, the shop, and an outbuilding shed near RV parking. I can see the road with 1Gbps fiber but no way to get it to my new place. The local WISPs are bad and I have worked at good ones so I know the difference. It is also nice I work from home and also the fact that last year taught everyone that working from home is a real thing. Hopefully, I can convince my Dad who lives in the mountains to ditch Husenet and get Starlink soon.

Hey Chris, I also use the same DNS server that you use here and even in the same order. A big fan of the Crosstalk Solutions channel. Many things of the channel material I’ve already have the knowledge, but not everything you cover on it and find your way of explaining and implementing Hardware very interesting and complete. Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷.-

Thank you. so much for this. I’m crazy and balancing Centurylink, TMobile as I test out starlink and set them up as gateways I can switch to using edgerouterx. Love this unit.

The way that Starlink do DHCP from the dish can cause this static route to fail in some situations. I've found it's more reliable to create a pseduo ethernet interface on the edge-router and set this to have an IP on the 192.168.100.0/24 subnet.

On an edgerouter you can do this with:
set interfaces pseudo-ethernet peth0 address 192.168.100.101/24
set interfaces pseudo-ethernet peth0 link eth0
set interfaces pseudo-ethernet peth0 mac 00:02:03:04:05:06

This then doesn't have the issue that it goes down if you loose satellite connectivity

Hi Chris! You should create a video on setting up IPv6 with the EdgeRouter X on StarLink. This gets even more important since they are using CGNAT to implement IPv4. Thanks for the video!

Great video Chris. I just subscribed to your channel. I was wondering if you have a video with Starlink as the primary ISP and a wireless LTE connection as a failover on the Edgerouter x. I’m just wondering what additional steps I might have to take to add that device in as a back up.

Chris you could do Load-Balancing or Load-Balancing with failover becouse for most users in Europe will need Starlink as a backup line or to speedup connection

Thanks for doing this video. I'm looking at the EdgeRouter X for a dual wan solution between Starlink and my local DSL ISP. I've already got a Unifi UDM, and I have a few questions.

1. Can the ERX use the "controller" from the UDM?
2. Will the Unifi Teleport VPN still work even though Starlink is using CGNAT?

Any chance you could do a video on a Starlink/local ISP dual WAN setup, if you haven't already?

Thanks for the video.
Like ubiquiti, but when it comes to routers I like mikrotik.

Edgerouter X is still my favourite router from ubiquiti. Such a great little device. Using it myself.

I am waiting for Starlink to be available at my main area where I want to deploy it, but for longer work trips etc where I'd want to bring Starlink along, I will pair it with a Ubiquiti DreamMachine to have a whole Unifi Network in a single cylinder that can function on its own, or be expanded with further IPs etc.

I think that once Starlink Broadband is installed it is best to leave it as is unless you are moving home to a new address and then you must notify Starlink that you are moving to a new address as well as the address to where you are moving.

Some Cable modems (my last few Motorola modems) also use 192.168.100.1 to access management / diagnostics / statistics pages
