If you are looking for a cheap tuning project but don't want an honda i'd say about any Volvo. Their engines are basically like cheap and reliable 2JZ's.

Volvos are so consistently slept on. The V60 hatch is probably the most attractive looking on the market, especially on air with a nice set of wheels and a splitter

Recently I've noticed that the S80 in particular, in social media, has started to grow in popularity. Yeah, the S80 is cool in V8 and I6T configs, but it really isn't all that impressive. The UA8/UA9 Acura TL, CD391 Fusion Sport (2.7T) are examples of subjectively better sleepers more worthy of the attention the S80 seems to get all the sudden.

Suspension geometry equivalent to a boat (obviously), limited aftermarket, costly maintenance and "meh" performance. Driven one for a while, it really wasn't impressive.

Wish people appreciated the cars that are actual sleepers rather than appreciate cars with little to write home about.

It has 429 horsepower *stock* and is safe and reliable on account of it being produced by Hyundai.
