Tim vs. Tom Tie-Off: Keslar's Mini-Gulp Sculpin

Join us to see who can tie the best version of Keslar's Mini-Gulp Sculpin. Tim and Tom square off live on this great pattern for imitating small sculpins (and we both think it's also a decent crayfish imitation). You don't always need or want giant streamers for catching large trout, and this one is heavily weighted so it gets down into short, deep pockets quickly. It works fished with a tight line method, dead drift, or stripped as a traditional streamer.
Keslar’s Mini Gulp Sculpin
Hook: Size 10 or 12 Tactical Jig Hook (one with a longer shank like the 60-degree jig hook works better)

Body: Root beer Estaz Cactus Chenille or similar
Legs: Grizzly Flutter Legs Fl.Orange, plus barred black & brown

Tom made a good decision to make the fly look more like a sculpin. It looks better…but both look good!

I doubt anyone is checking at this point, but just in case… What vise is Tom tying on?

I think Tom's fly is inspired by the pattern. That does not look much like the pattern that is for sale.

I think toms would be better for smaller fish, and I think Tim’s is better for the bigger fish to light bass pike, walleye things like that
But they are both great flies. I can’t vote I would have them both in my box.
