Quick, to the point, and easy to follow, much thanks.

1. Open a file,

[Click on a "wand" (Fuzzy Select tool) in the upper left corner. Use the "wand" to hit or
select the whole background area of the image; or, ]

2. click, “Select” --choose--> Invert

3. then, "Edit" -- choose --> Copy

4. then, "Layer" --choose-> New Layer --- drop down to select--> Transparency --- then, click, OK

5. then, "Edit" --choose -->Paste

6. then, move your mouse to the lower right corner of the screen, to choose the layer or icon with ".jpeg" label. It is important that you Click the icon to choose it,

7. then, try Click on the picture, to experiment the color hues you like

8. to Save, go to "File", then select "Export as"...

Dude, freaking thank you bro, you litterally saved a massive headache from wasting time, now i know how to change the colors in gimp, thanks to bro i now have a image with fire on the bottom and blue on the top i've decided that i randomly wanna toy around and make thumbnails

This really helped, finally manage to change the colour. However, when I add the hexcode to the colourize panel, it doesn't adapt this colour. Would you know how this works?

My image is not turning to the color I put it into to, when i try to change it into light blue it literally turns into its original color but without the shaders

You know that Gimp sucks when you have to watch a video to learn how to change color.

What an absurdly convoluted process, like everything about GIMP and other modern graphics programs. It's also not what I thought since I'm trying to replace one set color with another set color.
With the old JASC Paint Shop Pro I can do this or the operation I needed in a few seconds using three simple clicks because that program was designed to be intuitive and simple. I've never had to watch a video to learn even complex functions with PSP.

After I get floating selection and click anywhere floating selection stays selected and you can't do anything. How do you get the floating selection to change to none floating.

What garbage; oh yeah, great if you have a solid single one-color background but absolutely useless on a multi-color background. Teach us something useful.
