Romulan Encounter - The Enterprise-D stands off with a pair of D'deridex warbirds! - Star Trek - 4K

The USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D comes face-to-face with a Romulan Warbird (D'deridex class)!

USS Enterprise-D model is by Lewis Niven, with some modifications by me.

The warbird was modelled in Cinema 4D, and the textures were created in Substance 3D Painter. Animation created in Cinema 4D 2023, and rendered in Redshift 3D 3.5. With a combination of a GeForce RTX 3090 and an RTX A4000, frame times were on average about 1m 30s, maxing out at a little over 3 minutes when the warbird is filling the frame.
Compositing and post work was done using DaVinci Resolve, with the BorisFX Sapphire plugin.

I love how there seems to be more animators who are figuring out how to make their CG starship models look as photorealistic as an actual filming miniature. It looks amazing.

That is the greatest mesh of a D'deridex class Warbird that I've seen in the 24 years that I've been aware of what a mesh is.
You should be very proud. You should also make several backup copies, on multiple types of medium.

Very nice video! I liked how this shows the scale of the D'deridex class Warbird. I thought that was something that was never really done well in ST:TNG, the angles they choose in the show never conveyed that the Warbirds were far larger than the Galaxy class starships.

The D'deridex is interesting to fly in Star Trek Online. Anything but agile, it steers like a cement truck, but it's tanky, and can put a lot of weapon arcs on a target.

This scene is fantastic. The models, lighting and music. I love the detail you can see a distortion of a cloaked shipped behind the Enterprise between 0:13 - 0:18.

Everyone is raving about the Romulan nobody is mentioning how amazing the first few seconds of the video are - the enormous planet beneath a TINY Enterprise-D, which despite the Galaxy class being such a 'large' ship, goes to show in the grand scheme of the universe, she is barely a pinprick!
