THEORY:

The girl, Sarah, was taken from a young age. Maybe one or two years old? The monster was her original mother, but she was cursed by the other "mother". Probably their faces look the same. She grew up with her, and she had a pretty happy life there. But the monster has been looking for her for years, and she finally found the person who took her baby. She got her revenge, and she quickly grabbed her daughter. Sarah, thinking she is just a monster, slapped her and tried to get away. She then took her to where she was staying, and they now live together
