🌏 On August 17th, Indonesia celebrates Independence Day, the anniversary of Indonesia's proclamation of independence from the Netherlands in 1945. Here are a few tips to help you find your way around Indonesia in a game of GeoGuessr! 🇮🇩

Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world, consisting of over 17,000 islands. Only a fraction of those are permanently inhabited, however, and even fewer of them have Google Street View coverage. Focus on learning the large islands of Java, Sumatra, Borneo, and Sulawesi where the majority of Indonesian Street View coverage exists. The first 2 digits of landline phone numbers can help you figure out which of these islands you're on (see the graphic in the video for specifics). License plates are black with white text like they are in Indonesia's neighbor Malaysia. Indonesian drivers obey left-hand traffic and motorcycles are a very common mode of transit.

Plates will soon be the inverse. White background and black text. However, some people will use custom plate size and that can be confusing.

Basically Indonesian plate number consists of 3 parts: Single and/or double letter followed by numbers, then letters. The first part of the plate is the region. Example: B=Jakarta, DK= Bali.

This is 50% useful tho since anyone can bring in cars from other provinces.

Edit: i realized the plate format is useless since they're all blurred but the custom sized white plates can be confused for thai.

The license plate thing is slowly changing as the government issued a new rule that civilian vehicles should use black text over white plate

The first thing you look for is the big photo of a politician and after that is just a walk in the park
