Students, Staff Return to Montgomery County Public Schools

The new academic year is now underway for Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS). At Albert Einstein High School, the marching band, student dancers and poms kicked off the year Monday outside the school.

Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor, appointed in June to lead the school system, said MCPS is focused on safety this year.

The school district is 99% staffed and there are under 100 teacher vacancies, “which is really remarkable for this time of year,” said School Board President Karla Silvestre.

The state’s largest school district includes about 160,000 students, more than 13,157 school-based teachers, and 1,291 permanent bus operators, according to MCPS.
