An important caveat about this design that he didn't mention is that thrown ender pearls will disappear if you die, so you'd have to go back and set it up again if that happens.
There is a game rule for this (enderPearlsVanishOnDeath) however it defaults to "true", so if you don't want the chunk loader to break you should make sure that game rule is set to "false".

Fun fact:
You can make a stasis chamber that teleports you back when you log back in if you throw an enderpearl into melted water next to an armor stand with frost walker. Everytime you log back in, the frost walker re-freezes the water. Colliding with the enderpearl.

So ready to see what kind of world-ending madness Doc and the Hive Mind will conjure up with this

The fact that ender pearls disappear when you log off does mean that the current style of chunk loading via Nether Portals is still going to be very important for things that rely on an area to be constantly loaded (IE Hermitcraft mail system, or redstone contraptions larger that a single chunk)

Years ago when i first learned of stasis chambers i though they would be great for me since by attaching a binary counter to a daylight sensor i could have them teleport me back to my base after a set number of in game days, so that i could just throw myself into the wild or a deep cave without worry, only to be disapointed as the chunks needed to be loaded.
But NOW!, i finally have a use for stasis chambers, and i am looking forward to throw myself as far away from my base without worry

This pretty fundamentally changes the game, I think. Easy to use chunk loaders with a built-in on/off switch based on player activity seems huge.

IT IS POSSIBLE TO BUILD A STASIS CHAMBER IN THE NETHER:
1) Make a pilar using: 1 block of your choice and two honey blocks. For example (going from bottom to top), dirt, honey, nohey
2) Place a facing up piston next to the bottom block (the dirt block, in my example)
3) Make a redstone clock using two observers to power the piston (if the clock is too fast the enderpearl will clip through it and won't work, and if it is twoo fast it will hit the ground instead)
4) On top of the honey block place an anvil or three sea pickles, it will be needed to align yourself (you have to place the anvil or the pickles facing the direction you are going to through the pearl, otherwise, their hitbox will be different. For ex, the anvil needs to have a T shape if you look at it from the side where the piston is)

HOW TO USE IT:
Stand on top of the honey block and walk towards the anvil/pickle to align yourself.
Throw the enderpear aiming straight down ( move your camera down until it stops moving downwards)

DISCLAIMERS:
1) It may not work every time, you may have to try multiple times to make it work, but once you get the pearl to bounce. Once you get it done it won't ever despawn or accidentaly teleport you
2) If you want to activate de stasis chamber (just in case you want to use it for other purposes) Just place a lever next to the piston, and when you trigger it the piston will stop moving, disabling the stasis chamber and teleporting you

You can make a video out of it if you want to, hope it was useful for anyone.
I tried to explain everything in detail, but if someone has any questions I can respond to them in the comments

These would have saved Tango about 10 hours of frustration to get his 'factory turns on and off when I log in and out' machine

This is probably one of the best features in a while

So lets say you have farm loaded with these, you could hook that trapdoor to basically any trigger, like storage chest getting full or dispenser becoming empty. That way you'd get instantly teleported to the farm to fix said problem and keep it running efficiently.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in theory if you were to set up a player online detector, like the one cub showed in a recent video and hook it up to an ender pearl stasis chamber. You would have an infinite range and infinite time teleportation back home as long as you stay logged in. So if you want to go back home, you just log out and then back in.

Camman18 just released a video on a stasis chamber that can work anywhere with no redstone and all you need to do is relog to activate it. I'm not sure how well it'll work on multiplayer though. You basically dig a 1×2×6 hole, fill it with water, make one side bubbles, place an armor stand nearby, give it frost walker boots, wait for the frosted ice to melt, and throw a pearl between the two water blocks.
When you relog frost walker boots on armor stands will spread their ice, thus placing a block for the pearl to hit. This is great because you don't need to worry about a timer going off at the worst possible time and a lot of people log out when they're in a pickle anyway. Plus if you were in lava you get put out instantly. Also bubble columns don't freeze, which is why it needs to be two wide.

Whilst I do want these changes to stay, I would like to see a limit added to them that can be configured via a gamerule (maxEnderPearls or something like that). Right now someone can setup a massive amount of chunk loaders and essentially tank server performance by simply logging in if they have enough chunk loaders setup. The current nether portal based versions technically also have this issue as they keep everything loaded at all times (regardless of the player being online) but those require quite a bit more setup than just digging down, placing soul sand, some water and throwing a pearl. Definitely want to keep the feature itself though!

If you wanted a log out friendly nether chunk loader you would just build your standard portal chunk loader but in the overworld place a ender pearl chunk loader next to it so that the overworld side would load it to start working when you log back in

Mojang: chunk-loading is so powerful and can so easily break servers, we won't allow datapacks installed by the admin to do it unless they go through an extra step to permit this (which also compromises the security of the server in numerous other ways).

Also Mojang: any player can make as many chunk-loaders as they want.

Edit: to clairfy I love these changes I just think there should be game rules for it instead of just relying on third party plugins for managing it

The only issue I see is this could be a performance issue on server if there's no way to limit how many per player, definitely think we should get maybe 2 new game rules 1 for total number of ender pearls a single player can have and one for the chunk loading feature entirely

1:20 You should use the chunk debug mod to view the loaded chunks, much nicer than the chat messages

This will kill the enderpearl hang strategy used by speedrunners, where they reduce their render distance and then throw the pearl into unloaded chunks, and later increase the render distance to re-load those chunks.

So speedrunners might not like this.

But that's a pretty fringe use case for enderpearls. Overall, this seems like a massive net positive.

Do ender pearls generate new chunks? What happens if you use an ender pearl launcher?

arranged.
