For those not familiar with Gin distilling, it’s not necessary to cut foreshots or heads due to methanol if your base alcohol already had it removed (comercial vodka, in this case). You generally cut a small amount as there is an overly high concentration of oils at the start, that can cause a cloudiness or ‘pearlescence’ in the final product when you proof it down to bottling strength.

That sample he tried was probably between 75% to 80% abv, so would have benefited with some dilution to appreciate all the flavour, but judging by the high weight of botanicals he used for a small still-charge, it probably packed an explosive amount of flavour!

Amazing Craft. I dont like alcohol much but making it from scratch is amazing. Preserve this craft for next generations that will come after us.

Usually you throw out the heads, (first liquid from distilling process) because it may or may not contain a lethal amount of a different type of alcohol. In this small of portions i dont think it matters

I'm a home distiller here in South Africa. I'm definitely gonna make myself a micro still like this! Will be a functional ornament.😉👌

We make homemade liquor similar way but we start from scratch using fresh fruit and dry fruits in a barrel with some water then boil it on flame make a little hole in the barrel put a pipe to the barrel then other side to a empty bottle let it fill and enjoy. My grandpa learned it in ww2

Usually when the rig starts to flow, the most concentrated bit is at the beginning of the pour. What you want is right after. Then create a proof mix to taste
