Consider cats. Even if you get home unexpectedly early or late, or come and go unpredictably, they don't just hear your voice (you may not say anything), they are waiting for you. Probably cued by sharper senses than we possess, they detect you from afar and by the time you open the door, they're already yawning just inside to bemoan your lentitude in performing your sole important function: feeding them.
