I also once heard that while she was returning home from school, she saw a dog lying on the road crying bitterly.
Some unruly kid had injured the dog with a stone and hurt its leg.
Sad as she felt, Florence took the dog home and nursed the dog's wounds.
Soon the dog was back on its feet and started jumping playfully.

Indeed, Florence was born to be a nurse and she remains an inspiration to all the other nurses.

This video really undersells the magnitude of Nightingales work. Nightingale founded military nursing and implored the British to reform a lot of their military around it. Because all of their soldiers would die of disease and not die of bullets. With medicine on their side and their armies became immensely more powerful than any other army in the world. British Global conquest and their military success was so unrivaled that if another Nation had to developed military nursing earlier I would probably be speaking a different language.
