Very thoughtful review, guys. Most companies would be delighted to have brought out Resolve 19 and just one of the 'minor' items of broadcast / streaming hardware...the team at Blackmagic Design truly is a one-off! Without exception, these are phenomenal products at their price point; Grant Petty is a huge force for good in the industry!

The footage they showed ( although graded) were phenomenal especially the shots directly against the sun. Super promising ❤

I haven’t been this excited about a camera since the A1. BMD just threw a few haymakers at every other camera company. Legendary gear drop!

When I first saw the new camera. It reminded me of the original URSA to an extent because of the operator side. It seems they went back to the original and said what can we do to bring those features and update to our 12k mini pro line because that is the one that sky rocketed us. And now we have the URSA Cine. Excited to get my hands on it next week at NAB!

Let's wait for CineD tests. If the 12K Version reaches 13 stops at SNR=2 I will be impressed.

Hopefully this breathes new life into the seriously improved (over several huge firmware updates) original 12K. It’s practically a different camera from launch and it’s crazy how little fanfare it’s gained.

Looing forward to more chalenging footage and some camera comparisons. Love to see if it matches anything out there in terms of working in multicamera workflows that are already established.

As context: This camera is made for VR, the market is screaming for exactly this, and BMD is a very close partner with Apple. Vision Pro needs this resolution, even 12K is not enough.

A smart move would be a blackmagic pyxis body with the 12k new sensor without all that connectivity options and completely without screen for half the price. In case they can fit that sensor in that body for a ok price, im pretty sure there would be a lot of one man bend cinematographers buying it. The new ursa is great but is a true set camera that one would rent and the pyxis is interesting package but that sensor is a bit outdated.. we need something in between. Camera that can be used to shot narrative/ documentary with a small (or no) crew with great performance

16 stops of dynamic range... I can't wait until you test this measure. If it's true or even close, I'm going to be sooo delighted! The lack of dynamic range on Blackmagic camera has always given me reservations. So happy to see Blackmagic going so hard on these new cameras. Thank you CineD for being one of the first to cover!

Je suis les tests caméras de CineD depuis de nombreuses années, J’attends votre test avec impatience.

Cette caméra est pour moi révolutionnaire, je suis juste un peu déçu qu’il n’ai pas réussi à conserver la taille de l’URSA g2.
Également dommage qu’il propose pas de 240fps en 4K ou 5k 17/9eme alors qu’il donne du 240 en 8k 2:4:1,
C’est la même chose avec quelques pixels en moins sur les côtés

J’ai hâte de savoir la dynamique utile de la caméra, la latitude, et les teste du Rolling shutter

Et merci pour ce rêve qui est la caméra 65 mm !!!

I downloaded the demo footage from the Blackmagic website. It seems like the new 12k Cine has approximately 1-1.5 usable DR when compared to the current Ursa 12k.

One thing that really bugs me with the discussion of resolution in these interviews and even Blackmagic’s responses to those questions: Yes 12k and even more so 17k seems ridiculous and niche, but with these sensors you can record in 8k, 6k, and 4k in BRAW without a crop making it incredibly versatile.

Correction: The baseplate that is included has BOTH 19MM and 15MM rail mounts.

has it got 16bit raw?
overall, It's pretty much covering all the short falling of other cameras, which makes a very versatile dream camera for both broadcast and film work, but not sure the pricing is right i felt they need one more line in-between of 6k and 12k, with price range about $6-8k by compromising some features like s35 sensor, 8k and with one filpout screen, aiming more towards non narrative filmmakers.
1. Full gate in full frame, good for anamorphic lens and shallow depth.
2. 16 stops of dynamic range in 12k, very rare either you get hires or better dynamic range in most cameras.
3. 240 fps in raw.
4. Two screens.
