Blackmagic Design URSA Cine EVF Explained

Alongside many new cameras such as the URSA Cine 12K, Ursa Cine 17K with a 65mm sensor, and the box-style PYXIS 6K, Blackmagic Design has just announced its new URSA Cine EVF, which will work with all three cameras mentioned above and, maybe, even more.

Most pressing question: will there be a monitor that can be connected to that usb c port? This would solve the whole sdi-only-discussion about the Pyxis.

The magic words 'DisplayPort' were spoken; this means that this EVF is using USB DP AltMode for display, and likely HID for camera control. This also means that 'normal' docks/cables would likely work with the camera bodies.

I wonder if it is possible to make an converter that takes hdmi signal or SDI signal and converts to display port usb c signal so we can use the EVF

Just for sh.ts and giggles, try plugging the EVF into an iPhone/iPad with USB C.

Would ANY of the previous generation BMD cameras that have usbc ports send power and data out in order to fascilitate this evf?

I wish they'd make a nice SDI Version of this EVF. I feel most manufactures aren't going to send the USB display port out.

😅 I’m wondering how this USB-C connected EVF will look when connected to other cameras too? I’ve been experimenting with different USB-C cables and cameras. I also do Tethering with my photo cameras. It’s actually interesting how the USB-C seems to be opening up other possibilities.

I just fully cine-rigged a FUJIFILM GFX 100 II. This viewfinder would totally kill it. Is there any way this might work?

So there could be an adapter actually made, but considering the price of the EVF, the adapter won't be cheap either, so...

They should have kept the mini EVF OLED and allowed it to be used at the rear of the PYXIS like a C100 or FS5. Also, I know EVFs can be expensive, but when they're more than half the cost of a whole camera (PYXIS), they should have priced it to be a no-brainer for every camera purchase. Hopefully, the mini EVF can still be used with the tilta cable.
