Grade 10: Lesson 2 - Illustrating Arithmetic Sequence
Objectives:
1. Define Arithmetic Sequence
2. Identify Arithmetic Sequence in a list of sequences
3. Derive the formula for Arithmetic Sequence
4. Illustrate an Arithmetic Sequence
5. Find the nth term of an arithmetic Sequence
Arithmetic Sequence is also know as the Arithmetic Progression
Arithmetic Sequence is a sequence where every term is added a constant number to get the next term. This constant number is usually denoted by small letter d which is the common difference.
Increasing arithmetic Sequence- the common difference is positive Decreasing Arithmetic sequence- the common difference is negative
The formula for arithmetic sequence is 𝑎_𝑛= 𝑎_1+(𝑛−1)𝑑
Where:
A_n is the nth term,
A_1 is the first term,
n is the number of terms
and d is the common difference.
To Solve any term in an arithmetic sequence you may follow the following steps:
1. Identify the given values
2. Write the formula for arithmetic sequence
3. Substitute the given values.
4. Solve or evaluate the equation.
