History & Introduction - Lecture 1 - Data analysis using R

General overview of the course. We'll talk about what you will learn during the course, and I will give an introduction of the history and future of computation and programming. We then take a look and feel at R, use it as a calculator, discuss the type system, look at how vectors and matrices are indexed, and talk about variables and scripts. I am completely new to R, however, my field is economics rather than biology. Does anybody who went through large parts of the course and has some insight into economic and financial research know whether this would still be a good course for me? I don't know how it is that all the way through my MSc. in Economics they threw STATA at me and now that I work in financial data analytics I am the laughing stock of the team because apparently nobody uses (or has ever used) STATA...
