Did you know that sometimes wolves sing just to make music, as we do?
It's called 'social glue' - a spreading of good feeling like people singing around a campfire, feeling closer to one another - it’s that same idea: through song, wolves reaffirm social bonds with one another.

Zephyr and Nikai are captive-born gray wolves at the Wolf Conservation Center (WCC), a 501c3 non-profit organization, in South Salem, NY. They are two of the three 'ambassador wolves' at the WCC that help teach the public about wolves and their vital role in the environment.

imagine the comfort this would give you. you have super sensitive ears and noses. you can smell youre friends or a another pack miles away, but youre still "alone" in your surroundings. so you howl. and in the distance, your kin respond, reassuring you that no matter how far you are away, they will always respond to even a faint awoo. i feel lonely while surrounded by people, they can just howl and everyone they know will spread that howl across probably hundreds of kilometers, connecting entirely different societies through a random song.
