I have performed the election duties myself as a presiding officer as well as micro observer, I just want to say that EVM functions and operation is strictly temper proof as far as software is concerned . election commission of India challenges all the software experts through out india for hecking this machine as a security threats (no one could do it). as all losing parties always play blame game.
your aforesaid elaborations regarding EVM is nicely represented and making clear all possible doubts.

one interesting fact: the chip that is used in EVM is OTP (One Time Programmable) i.e. each transistor in that chip is connected to a fuse and when the programming is done the fuse of transistor corresponding to 0 fuses and hence that chip cannot be programmed otherwise. Once programmed it cannot be changed.
