One house rule my family uses to make the game more challenging, during set up we shuffle the terrain hexes and place them face down. Next we place our settlements and roads. Then we randomize the numbers after which we turn the terrain hexes over. This way you have no idea what your starting resources are and there's a chance you're bordering the desert.

It's a very good explanation of the game. I'm happy to don't only rely on the booklet of rules that came with the game because of lot of rules are very subject to interpretation. I will repeat your video a couple of times I think. Thanks!

Side note: random can be subjective and depends on the eye of the beholder.

We use the robber house rule you described but can put it on any hex without penalizing anyone else. It speeds the game which is important when you're playing with younger kids. I like the 2 & 12 house rule! We're going to use it!
