How to Play Catan in 4 Minutes - Rules Girl

I’m the Rules Girl and this is Catan, the classic game of trading and building, for 3-4 players.

In Catan, players build settlements, cities, and roads, and compete against one another to become the dominant force on the island of Catan.

You win by having 10 or more victory points on your turn, earned by building cities and settlements, having the longest road, having the largest army, and earning victory point cards.

Played Catan a lot about a decade ago, but haven't played in a very long time as we grew into even more complex table top games. Going to introduce some friends to Euro-style board games needed a refresher on the rules. For someone that was already familiar, this 4 minute video did everything on needed in the concise way I wanted. Thanks!

This was a solid refresher, but playing Catan again I mostly felt that it only was interesting in its day because we were not familiar with the many other better games now easily available.

Some important things to note that weren't mentioned here which I discovered while playing my first game:
- After your first settlement placements, you can only build new settlements next to roads you've built
- You can only play one knight at a time, and to get the biggest army card you need to play more knights than the current biggest (like with the longets road card)

I have a question about trading, can only the active player initiate trades with others? can others initiate a trade with the active player as well?
