In this video I continue my lecture on reactions of carboxylic acid derivatives. The reaction list includes the Gabriel synthesis, azide hydrogenation, nitrile hydrolysis and hydrogenation, and carboxylic acid activation, as well as some introductions to oils, soaps, detergents, and micelles, as well as ATP. --Dr. Mike Christiansen from Utah State University

Hi Dr. Christiansen

In the reaction of phtalamide with an alkyl halide what prevents it from causing elimination instead of substitution. My question is because it seems like quite a bulky nucleophile thus I would think that we would get elimination as a major byproduct if not the major product in general? Thank you!
