When a farmer that's been on his land for 40 years says something is wrong and how he thinks it's wrong, scientists should listen. The man might not know all the scientific details of the phenomenon, but he does have a very good sense of the dynamics of his land.

Is it a water caused sinkhole or natural gas coming to the surface? A sinkhole might be caused by either problem. If there is dirt ejected around the area it was natural gas.

I think if they plant trees along with their farms it will strengthen the soil and reduce the likely hood of sink holes appearing.

With all the earthquake of course the soil is moving, nothing surprising there and it has nothing to do with water.
