That Purple Rain t-shirt makes me wanna sing: "Let's go crazy, and let's get nuts, we look for the purple banana till they put us in the truck"

I saw The Name of the Rose movie back in the late 80's, Sean Connery and Christian Slater, I liked it a lot. I need to read the book. Great Review!🎃

The film was amazing too. When Jean-Jacques Annaud, the film director, built the secret library, he realized Umberto Eco's description of the library in the book did not make any sense. He reached out to Eco, who was heavily invested in the movie, to ask him how many rooms where inside the library. Eco told him the library was thousands of rooms deep, which didn't make sense because Eco described it on being on single floor, which would have made the library into a massive building. Eco understood he had been wrong, and with Annaud they took the decision to have the library built on several floors, hence the incredible look of the labyrinth staircases inside the library.

When I was younger I used to read only Greek philosophers and I didn't respect much literature and fiction. I heard about that book and I made an exception and I read it. Since then I read only literature books of any kind. THIS IS THE BOOK THAT CHANGED MY WORD.

I've read this book twice and I enjoyed it alright. The translation and prose is very good indeed. This is one book where I've enjoyed reading the reviews of, which are quite mixed.

Translations are rather interesting to me, and something I became interested in after a number of years ago when Oprah's Book Club praised the Peaver y Volokhonsky translation of Tolstoy's Anna Karinina. And incredible book and certainly one of its time. I always recommend it because the prose is wonderful and I wondered how much was due to the prose of the trandlators to Tolstoy's work or the characters, which have so much depth and feel so real. It's a mix of all I guess. Anyway, I've veered of again...

Btw, I got my copy of The Forgetting Moon this week and excited to start it very soon.

Prospective readers need to hear what's good AND bad about every title booktubers recommend. This review does exactly that. Name of the Rose sounds like a good novel BUT Brian's honesty about its description overload is important to know before buying. Thanks for affixing the Robert Jordanitis warning label, Brian.

I've always wanted to read this book. I think I shall, once I'm done with a couple Ken Follett books.

I should check this novel and Foulcault's Pendulum, another one from the same author, someday.

When I lived in Sacramento there was a great burrito place called Umberto’s. Open 24 hours too.

I read Foucault's Pendulum once, because I heard it would present the greatest conspiracy theory of them all, but unfortunately, it was a very VERY boring book, at least for my taste. So I never felt the need to read The Name of the Rose after seeing the movie …

The film started my love of Ron Perlman ❤

Being a greasy wop, I read the book in its original version and greatly enjoyed it. You make me want to go through the translation as well.

This novel was the one Eco talked about least willingly even though I liked it a lot but the movie less. Foucault's Pendulum and Il Cimitero di Praga are also a must read.
