For the uninitiated, growing an exotic or tropical-effect garden seems difficult and is associated with a load of technical work. However, the opposite is generally true. Take our garden for example, in a single year we have planted out our juvenile plants and cuttings, and by the following season they have exploded both in size and ornamental colour. So in this video you can witness us take apart the old garden and replant the new one.

It's surprising what can be achieved in a year.
Adding evergreens will help with creating that microclimate you'll need for the more delicate plants; obvious one is the tropical looking Fatsia Japonica, dot a number of these about the garden round about the mid to back of the border. Then there's Mahonia Sweet Caress, a mid border plant.
I live on the edge of The Fens with it's cold north easterly winds and these plants are doing fine my tropical garden
