Great video thank you. A lot of people tell you that you can't put worms in a tumbler but you clearly show that it's possible

Hi Marty, another great video! I have a black plastic compost bin which I've just set up (because we have moved). The bottom is open to the ground and I have enough red wrigglers to spare putting them in there, but I'm afraid they'll disappear into the earth. I feed that bin food scraps (including egg shells), some sand, and straw. Shredded newspaper if I have it. Thanks!

Would you have to close the vents on the compost tumbler after adding the worms.?

Marty you legend! What if my tumbler has holes in it? Will my wriggly mates be ok with it having holes or will they stay within the tumbler?

Cheers cobba 🎉

Good video. How do you separate the living worms from the worm castings? Cheers.

People say worms can’t handle living in a hot compost heap. Maybe in the middle of summer in a closed compost system then yes worms will cook. However in a heap situation worms can and will move to where they are more comfortable.

Worms in compost heaps are great. They turn a heap into a worm farm.

I’ve found if a garden with lots of compost worms is examined at night, lots of worms can be seen crawling around. They like to move.

How do you then separate the worms from the compost?

I have an aerobin my council gave us to monitor waste, and have wondered if I could put worms in it or if it would get too hot. I’m in Melbourne and it does get sun until about midday. Cheers and thanks for all your helpful videos.

I just love the castings that come out of my compost tumbler. I throw in every type of scrap from the kitchen and garden, so I get an amazing fertile casting that my plants thrive on.
I find a few handfuls of coffee grounds is all they need as a grit source. I am able to harvest about every two to three months.
Are you putting compost worms into your composts? Please let me know below.

Can the warms live in the compost bin in the winter? Is an electric blanket good for heat?

Couldn't agree more! worms are natural decomposers! I haven't had the success of a thriving self breeding community (fingers crossed though I will), sharing my journey here to hopefully inspire others! @

Hi Marty the tigers are striped, the straight marine worms are red wrigglers?

I added some worm castings from our worm bin to our compost tumbler a few months ago to see if it speeded things up. Yep sure did, now have a tumbler full of worms and compost which looks like worm poo. Will be interesting to see what happens over summer as tumbler is out in sun light.

Thanks Marty.
1. Approximately how often would you turn the tumbler with worms in it ?
2. Do you just turn the tumbler 180 degrees or several turns ?

Cheers
Steve

Good video Marty, I love worms family and friends think I'm going or gone crazy since I retired haha, I have an old coffee grinder that I grind up the eggs shells in very fine the worms love them, your Maze tumbler you can get an updated handle, instead of the 2 flats the handle fits on its now a cogged gear so much better, you can order it on their web site. . . . . Hey Marty and Karen, I bought a very cheap tumbler to use at my apt. I live alone and the tumbler only has one bin. I did not know that tumblers can bring flies if I put it outside so I am now wondering if I could use worms with this tumbler and keep it in my kitchen. I've never composted before but I have watched a lot of videos over the last couple weeks. Can you give me some detailed instructions for start up? I just watched your video introducing how to become a worm wrangler. You mentioned a course...is it included when we join?
