Greece is a country that has had a tremendous impact on the world. Well, that doesn't specifically mean the modern nation state of Greece, but rather the Hellenic civilization that stretches back to ancient times. It's considered the cradle of Western Civilization and the birthplace of democracy, and the culture from which some of the most influential titans of philosophy and mathematics arose. Today, visitors are attracted to Greece in large part to see the remnants and ruins of the ancient Greek city states.

Travelers may also associate Greece with the Greek islands and their stunning Mediterranean beaches. But 80% of the Greek landscape is actually mountainous, including the Pindus Mountain range, which is part of the Dinaric Alps which extend through much of the Balkan Peninsula. Greece borders Balkan countries to the north, as well as Turkey to the east.

As Greek from Macedonia I thank you for mentioning our region since it isn't as popular as the island or other regions in Greece and the neighboring country of the north doesn't help much with that. Macedonia is Greek and it's history is Greek and not Slavic as our neighbors want the world to think 🇬🇷

Cyrene is Libyan historic city, it is in the eastern of Libya 🇱🇾, which there’s Apollo and aziz temple, a lot of Libyan are from Greece origin and they are called greetly related to Greece 🇬🇷, much ❤️ from Libya to Greece 🇬🇷

Greece is 80% mountainous with breathtaking landscapes and views around every corner. 20% of all of europes Ultra peak mountains lies in Greece. Ultra peak mountains are mountains that rise atleast 1500 meters above its lowest surrounding point.
Meaning the real visual height of a mountain. Greece has 19 Ultra peak mountains.
For reference. Switzerland has 8, Austria 12, Croatia 0, Spain 4 on its land territory. Meaning Greece is a tremendously mountainous country with truly spectacular scenery that most people dont know.

Greece has also 400 wetlands another thing most people are not aware of. with Greeces 80% mountains and 16.000 km of the most crystal clear waters, there are also a lot of rivers and deltas and and so on from the mountains towards the sea. For comparison. A country the size of Turkey has only 110 wetlands.
So it comes to give an idea of how wetland rich Greece is.

Also Greece has 800 natural hotsprings which is some of the most in the world.

Also 15.000 caves. A whole arch of many volcanos. Among which Santorini is the largest sea volcano in the world

Another thing. Greece lies on 4 tectonic earthplates which gives Greece its immensely diverse mountains, landscpses, geology, immensely diverse geography and topography.
Greece lies on the European, African and Asian plate which comes together inside Greece. And the 4th one is the one that got crushed inbetween the other 3

Dont say 'Macedonia claimed by the 2 countries' . North Macedonia has slavic identity, and the people there came to these lands much later in time. They claimed it for economic reasons. No offense to North Macedonians.

Hey, a Greek here! Just wanna say that if you plan on visiting cool places in Greece besides the islands or coast, a very beautiful place I recommend is the Meteora! It has very unique mountain formations and a very nice view!

Some facts about the dispute over the name of Macedonia that most people might not know…

01. Slavic Tribes arrived at the region of the NORTHERN PART of ANCIENT GREEK MACEDONIAN LAND
(North Macedonia today), approximately 900 years AFTER!!! …the death of Alexander The Great! 😂
And AFTER, THE FALL of ROMAN EMPIRE.
🏛 Greek Empire was BEFORE!!! Roman Empire’s existence

Thus they can’t be linked as “Macedonians”.
Slavic tribes came from the East North to today’s “Macedonia” but they just step on it, that’s all. Nothing common with Greek ancestors or Alexander the Great. They just step on A PART of a northern land, of the old Greek kingdom of Macedonia. Alexander’s Macedonia was stretched from West -Southern Balkans, Northern Greece to Eastern Bulgaria. Today’s “Northern Macedonians” just grabbed the advantage of the history of another nation, and try to confuse the world, that might not care or don’t know about history. But we Greeks had enough of this joke. And Bulgarians too.

02. Macedonia was an Ancient GREEK kingdom and Alexander was speaking ANCIENT GREEK Macedonian. Macedonians were a A GREEK TRIBE.
Ancient Macedonian language was an Ancient Greek DIALECT coming from the Greek DORIAN dialect. Not to be confused with the “modern” Slavo-Macedonski or simply Macedonski as it is today in NORTHERN MACEDONIA. Which is a Slavo Bulgarian dialect.

03. Even after centuries during Turkish Ottoman Empire where Greece was enslaved and occupied by Turkey for 400 years, (Balkans for 500 years), THERE WERE NO ETHNIC GROUPS like MACEDONIANS to both regions of the 2 today’s countries, (Greece and North Macedonia), according to the Ottoman archives.
There were Greeks, Turkish, Jews, Bulgarians, Slavs, Roma

04. People of North Macedonia today may falsely consider themselves as Macedonians but in reality they are an ethnic group of Bulgaria
Their language is an Eastern B dialect of Bulgarian with some slavic elements in it.

All this fuzz about the name is the Stalino-communist propaganda creation of Yugoslavia leader, named Tito.
North Macedonians were mostly Bulgarian tribes. But Tito would loose so much land territory. The south part of Yugoslavia. So half of them were killed because they didn’t want to change their ethnic identity as Bulgarians, but the rest of them were convinced that they were a slavic Macedonian individual ethnic group. Cause they weren’t 100% Yugoslavians. They were speaking Bulgarian in a Yugoslavian land. So Tito wouldn’t dare to say you are Bulgarians.
During that time Yugoslavia and Bulgaria were at war. It’s like he would surrender the whole south part of Yugoslavia to Bulgaria.
So it was inevitable that future generations would be raised as Macedonians through the years in today’s N.Macedonia. And then claim our Greek history and Alexander the Great and the Vergina Sun symbol on their flag. Northern Macedonians nowadays, and their language HAVE NOTHING TO DO with Greek language or Greek ethnicity. They just stole this name to have sth to grab at, during these troubled Balkan territories, back at the time. An identity. Even if it is fake

That’s why until nowadays BULGARIA was putting VETO for EU MEMBERSHIP on today’s NORTHERN MACEDONIA. Because of their identity.

“Bulgaria invoked its veto power on negotiations with would-be members in 2020 to block North Macedonia's candidacy based on accusations that the Macedonian language was simply Bulgarian by another name and Skopje was disrespecting its shared cultural and historic ties to Bulgarians”. Just a few days ago BULGARIA lifted the Veto under European pressure (Europe is afraid of the Balkans to be in Russia’s influence again after the Ukranian invasion), but BULGARIA has some terms. History is being written while we speak. We’ll see how this goes


EARLY SLAVS:

The early Slavs were a diverse group of tribal societies who lived during the Migration Period and the Early Middle Ages (approximately the 5th to the 10th centuries) A.D. in Central and Eastern Europe and established the foundations for the Slavic nations through the Slavic states of the High Middle Ages.

ALEXANDER THE GREAT:

If you scroll down on the link and look for Alexander’s Dynasty ethnic origin group, you can see he is from the
ARGEAD dynasty. An ancient Macedonian ROYAL house (House of Argos) of GREEK DORIAN provenance.


They had as a symbol the VERGINA SUN (that today’s Northern Macedonia has stolen as a symbol in their national flag).

As we said the Macedonian language was an Ancient Greek DIALECT. The main language DIALECT groups were ATTIC, IONIC, AEOLIC, and DORIC many of them with several submissions such as Ancient Macedonian (Dorian dialect). The ATTIC dialect was considered more sophisticated/ educated and was used widely afterwards, during Alexander’s education.

Dorians were 1 of the 4 major ANCIENT GREEK TRIBES during classical Greece era, along with Aeolians, Achaeans and Ionians.

IONIANS: (ΙΩΝΕΣ)

Greece is a fascinating country, which has given the Free World so much. The ancient sites, and the scenery, are second to none. Greece also has great indigenous music, rebetika, which began to be recorded in the 1930s.

In the 2018 Prespa Agreement North Macedonia officially renounced any claims/heritage stemming from the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia and thus also Alexander the Great. There is no reason to be diplomatically equidistant on a matter that has already been successfully resolved.

As a Greek living abroad since half a century, what stuns me every time I visit my home country is how quickly the landscape changes and how many different architectural styles exist in such a small place. Sometimes you just drive ten kilometres and then you take a turn and everything changes.
