LIFE after death does not exist, at least according to science popularizer Bill Nye the Science Guy who explained why he thinks there is "overwhelming evidence" against the idea of an afterlife. The jury is still out on whether life after death is real, even though most of the world's religions claim to know the an...

We may lack empirical evidence for an afterlife, but we also lack empirical evidence to refute life after death.

The largest study ever concluded stated that only 9% of patients had an NDE who survived a cardiac arrest. And what you notice is that it is very different for every person. Some people see a bright light, others see heaven, some see hell, some see their God or Gods, which proves that people see what they believe in my opinion. Hindus see Hindu Gods, Christians see Jesus, Muslims witness Allah and Mohammed.

I'm a big Bill Nye fan, but it's disappointing to me that such a smart guy, who calls himself a scientist can be so dismissive of the literature without having read it and truly understanding it. He oversimplifies the whole argument of NDE's and life after death, reducing it to traits of the physical when the very argument is that it's driven by mental, ethereal and the nature of how that might work. I'm not saying he's right or wrong, only that he isn't addressing the argument, thereby dismissing it before he understands it. There is strong evidence in the scientific community about consciousness surviving death, at least for a short while. Whether you believe in an afterlife or not, that phenomenon can't be explained by oversimplifying it the way he does. It's kind an embarrassing answer, to be honest, akin to saying "just because it doesn't seem that way." Maybe the NDE phenomenon isn't an afterlife, but something is happening and by speaking in such absolutes (which is very anti-scientific, I might add), he is maintaining a blind spot to an important phenomenon occurring within our consciousness.

Repeatable life is more logical to me than nothing after death, It's like saying rolling the same eyes of dice twice cannot happen. If we assume a dice cannot be rolled twice and we know the number of dice outcomes in our reality is extremely big, eventually reality will run out of possible dice outcomes and then there is nothing. But infinite nothingness can't have a beginning.

What do you think happens you walk outside and step on a caterpillar and blow its guts out its ass. Its black, gonzo. Life is over with. Same of a 10000lb steel beam fell out the sky on my head. Its done and over with . Why do people have such hard time accepting this lol

The celebs here get it all wrong, but Bill Nye misses the whole point. Entirely. In his glib little monologue there, he asks whether you'd want to kill yourself so that you could hurry the process up....suicide? Huh? Would you turn to crime AFTER you die and "come back" younger? Your proof that there is no life after death, is that you didn't witness your grandmother come back in a newer, younger, better body than before? That you haven't see anybody be able to do that? So because you haven't see it, it doesn't exist. now do you see why I say Bill Nye is clueless as to how this whole "Afterlife" thing works. Bill feels that if he's wrong and there IS a life after death, then bring it on, he would welcome it. Hahahaha. Again, Bill has NO idea how this all works. Bill put it this way. If those that believe in an afterlife are wrong, well they'll never know and they'll be just like you. Oblivious to the fact that they were wrong. Now if they are right and you're wrong (which you are) then my bruv you are well and truly F#%@&D!!! It will be too late to do anything about it and you will then come to know what it is that you said would never come. That it didn't exist. Then you will come to know!!!

I can't think of anything more pessimistic than not holding out any kind of hope that there's something better waiting for us after this shitty world we endure being on for 100 years or so. Even if you do/don't believe in any kind of god I think it's awful to not think there's something better for us after this.

Why do so many humans fear the truth of eternal oblivion? It is our natural state and the inevitable outcome of our existence.
To think or believe anything else is a foolish and a wasteful way to live ones life.

How arrogant you are. Why would the afterlife or spirit world be subject to the laws of science? What makes you think we would be able to observe it objectively?

And the truth is, you don't know what happens after death, because you obviously haven't died yet. You have created your own god, and named it "science". Everyone worships something. Everyone has an idol. I commune with the living God, while you commune with the god of death and decay. I was there once. I know that nothing I say will change your mind or open you up to new experiences. Carl Yung said in an interview that the psyche is not bound by space and time, so there is a possibility that consciousness continues after death. He said only "ignorants deny these facts".

Set aside your pride. You are your own god. Unfortunately, you aren't wise enough to rule as a god. At least, not alone.

I personally believe whether there is afterlife or nothingless depends on the personal belief of a person. If you are religious and believe that you will go to heaven or hell, it will happen. If you are atheist and think the life you are currently living will be the only one . Same goes for if you believe you will be reincarnated
My personal belief is that there MUST be something after death, that there is some kind of hidden meaning we are meant to discover when we are separated from our current lives. Maybe one day we will know

I had an obe my body floated above my bed I saw my ceiling from one half inch away it was not a dream I was not sleeping I was still in some type of other type of body that was very strong so I decided to turn myself over so I turn myself over like I was floating in a pool of water and I saw myself sleeping in my bed however when I had this experience I realized that we as human beings have antennas that has very sharp hearing and vision which could account for these very real near-death experiences however I could see when I was having the experience that the antenna that human beings have that can pop out of you and can cause you to see things that are probably real but I also know that when we die this whole electrical system around our body dissipates too I want to thank you so much for the scientific post near-death experiences are real but life after death is not that's why people can't talk to the dead because the dead no longer exists my mom has been dead for almost 20 years and I just accept the fact that she no longer exists I'm not waiting and hoping that I'll see her again because I never will living in reality is always better than living in some kind of fantasy world thank you so much for just telling the truth there is no life after death at all when we can finally accept the fact we can finally start making our life here on Earth better while we're alive.

It’s hard to think of no afterlife because your just nothingness forever.

The best description I heard when your close to death is akin to when you charge a battery and over time the battery slowly fades in that it inevitably cannot hold a charge to produce same amount of energy-it takes longer and longer to charge to produce energy. Think of the charging as (Sleep). Old people right before they die spend most of the time sleeping -and it gets to the point where most of the day they stay in bed-to the point no amount of charging(sleep) can provide energy.

If there is no life after death then living has ABSOLUTELY no relevance.
Anything we do will end when the human race ends and the human race will end.
No one can prove, or disprove, life after physical death yet physical death is certain.
So again, if we’re smart chimpanzees then we have to face the fact that we’ve achieved nothing and contribute nothing to anything.
To sum up, we are a quirk of fate and we will be summarily rectified by that process that glitched and allowed us sentience.
If that is we, then I’d choose life after death as a viable prospect.
At least in that there is some hope of redemption and community that far exceeds what we hoped to achieve on this miserable planet.
