The way Steven fuses with anyone, gem or not, is how he views them. Steven sees Connie as an extremely cool girl. Steven sees Amethyst as a fun older sister, Pearl as a quirky mary-poppins-style nanny, and Garnet as a hip idol to look up to. Given how good Steven's relationship is with his dad, it makes sense that he sees Greg as a rockstar.

I think Steg also gets their muscles and through how Steven and Greg see each other. Steven draws Greg with abs on the “guitar dad” t-shirt, and although that’s around 3 years before the movie takes place, Steven sees immense strength in his dad. In the same token, Greg has seen Steven grow and mature at such a rapid pace, and I’m sure he has a lot of pride in who his son has become. Plus, Steven has super strength, and Greg might associate that with buffness. I really think their perceptions of each other really have a lot to do with how this fusion looks
