MacBook Air 2017 in 2024 - Worth it?

Should you buy a 2017 MacBook Air? Absolutely if you’re a student on a budget. It’s pretty much the best used laptop in the 250$ range.

I bought this laptop back in 2018 for college and it still works great to this day. It has about ~600 charge cycles but the battery still works really well. Might have to get a new one in a few years if the battery gets bad. This laptop held up well for so many years.

It is a great laptop for a student, and it will do what you need it to do, which is word processing, spreadsheets, note taking, and browsing mostly. The battery life alone is amazing! Such a great buy, even in 2023.

Here are a few tips to keep this macbook running for awhile, make your own upgrades to it, replace the battery for cheep, use an external display when you can because of the screen (obviously unnecessary), and upgrade it to the latest version of macos using opencore patcher. It would be the perfect macbook.

Macbook really is the perfect choice for long term use. I use Macbook pro 2012 for 5 years, then I buy MacBook air 2017 and it's still works fine in 2023 I never have a problem at all and i add the ssd from 128 to 512gb. I choose to change the ssd and stay with this one bc i fall in love with the glowing apple logo, too bad the new one doesn't have that anymore.

i just fixed one and im keeping it as my backup laptop! an amazing macbook by far!!! Upgraded the SSD to a 512GB NvMe SSD. It runs wicked fast :)

I bought the same Macbook Air in 2020 from the Apple store Refurbished section for school. I’ve had it 3 years still have apple care on it and used it for everything lectures, notes assignments, exams and watching shows. I love that it has all the ports and uses the magnetic charger.

I had this MacBook, bought back in 2018 held up pretty well, then I exchanged it for a gaming laptop Legion 5 (2020, AMD), now I’m planning to sell my legion and buy this second hand again 😊

The reason why the screen is so bad on the 2017 MacBook Air is because Apple was attempting to kill the MacBook Air back then via not upgrading its specification.
