COMPLETELY BROKEN CB DISCOVERED IN CK3!

I discovered this new CB in CK3 (rather, one we already knew, but discovered some new features of it) and it is completely broken. The only problem is that it has some very difficult to fulfill requirements.

I had a look at the game files, and it basically spells out explicitly what you discovered empirically in game.

There is one version of the "invasion-type war" that is available to tribals and/or characters whose faith has certain tenets (e.g. Warmonger.) This one (let's call it "viking invasion") targets any title tier, but it must target a King-tier character. It takes the target title and its de jure vassals (those de jure titles held by the defender personally are transferred). It appears that occupying provinces plays a role in determining what's taken, though neither the wiki nor the script indicate how. Clan characters, who don't have access to this previous type of invasion, get a different version. This one must target a kingdom. However, it has some special victory outcomes. First, if the defender is lower tier than yourself, you vassalize them in the war. Second, if the defender is of equal title rank to the attacker, all titles of that rank are transferred to the attacker on victory. Then, regardless of whether these conditions were true, the expected seizure of titles occurs, as it would in the "Viking invasion." This may invalidate previous things (e.g., if the defender was of lower tier but all his titles were de jure part of the target title, he may end up unlanded rather than becoming a vassal.)

The CBs are separate, but mutually exclusive. They invoke a common used_lifetime_invasion character flag to prevent them from being used more than once per lifetime. Since they're shared, the use of one will still lock out any other types. There's also special invasion CB, usable only by the Mongol Empire, which don't invoke this lockout. There's an extra-special version that only the AI Mongol Empire can use, which targets EMPIRES. These "Mongol invasions" also use custom resolution scripting, so outcomes are different. It appears to work more like a Holy War.

The CK3 wiki for CBs kind of mashes all these war types together, instead attempting to distinguish them by the tier of the target title. However, only the viking version can actually target counties or duchies; all other types target kingdoms (or in the extra special version, empires.)

fun fact, if you declare invasion cb and siege all land not in the de jure realm you also get, much like in CK2. Let's say you declare for France as a Viking and siege all of Aquitaine and none of France you still get all of France AND any titles you occupied. I used that after I reformed West African as Dura. I made it so I have invasion CBs and holy wars. It was a deadly combo as it quickly allowed me to bring Mali and the Almoravids to heel and then use the might of West Africa to unite Africa

Interesting find. Many Muslim faiths have Pursuit of Power which is probably why nobody's really noticed this until now.

I have a question, how does the game determine whether to make you a Clan or Feudal realm? I thought Clan was supposed to be essentially "Muslim feudalism", but it seems you can start Muslim and switch religions while remaining Clan easily but not the other way around as a non-Muslim feudal.

Of note - you will only take provinces that are already within a kingdom rank held by the defender.
If you look, west francia has both aquitaine and west francia as kingdom ranks - east francia doesn't have all their land as kingdoms and as such won't take land that isn't in their held kingdoms (like lotharingia), at least according to the preview. So when you declare, it appears to declare for - all - held kingdom ranks, not just the default one.
Although, to be honest, I genuinely thought this was just how the CB worked, as I've seen this in game.

Do people not know about this? I used this on purpose to avenge Tours because a guide (not an achievement guide, just a random tips & tricks thing) mentioned it. I didn't even realize it was clan exclusive.

I'm wondering if you are aware this CB allows you to conquer lands outside the de jure area listed?
It specifically says so. As the norse you can invade Aquitaine but capture all of West frankia first before forcing a surrender and you gain both kingdoms
