It might just work if you did it right. 9 years dusting every comb on both sides on all the bees in every box has been working just fine. 100% survival. And I've never lost a queen in the process.. Can't do that with the chemicals.

Powdered sugar does indeed cause the bees to go into a grooming mode, and as they groom one another many mites are removed, at best it’s a stop gap in between treatment, and of course it does not penetrate the capping’s to help the larva .

Fun fact a ton of mites do not like green pea flower. Spread that on ground around the hives.

Powdered sugar does indeed dislodge some mites from the bees, but it's been proven by several studies as ineffective for mite treatment. This is because only some of the mites drop off and they are not harmed, so they can crawl back up into the hive. Also only about 10% of the mites are out in the open at any given time and the rest are in the brood.

It is good when you have a few hives. How about 3000 hives?

That’s a very clever and effective treatment for mites.

mikes.

If you dust them enough, it can help, but that would take a lot of sugar and a lot of labor. The mites that are chewing on the brood and multiplying under the cappings are unaffected, though. But anything that helps is better than nothing. OAV is the best treatment I've seen. Natural and very effective.

This looks way more gentle than the guy who stuck a handful of bees in a tupperware an gave em a lil shimmy. It wasnt rough but i was like "SIR STOP SHAKING THE BEES😮"

I don’t agree with brood breaks being horrible for the bees, but I also think this is a good thing to do as well. But dusting doesn’t get the mites that are in the brood, and you have to dust EVERYTHING. So it would have to be every couple days
