I think you meant to say "Try to stand upwind" instead of "Try to stand downwind"

A lot of beekeepers use only one strip at a time for a twenty day treatment because there is a risk of queen loss with two strips

My suggestion would be instead of wasting formic acid if you are broodless. Go with oxalic acid.

I learned of a new danger to bees today. Hope all the bees are healthy

I’m new to beekeeping. Would this hurt your honey?

Are you doing this currently, late summer? And what hardiness zone do you live in?

StatMedic

In Russia and other countries where no one exchanges the bee food with sugar but leave them their full honey harvest for winter the verroa is not

Do you know how the formic acid kills the mites without (I assume) harming the bees?

So, the treatment doesn't kill All the mites ? Is European Foolbrood still a significant problem ? I lived in No. California near A burn with my Bees.

Have you had any issues with your Newcastle hives? I bought one with a screen board, and also their 5 medium super pack and some more medium super frames. Haven’t got any bees yet but will in the spring! Also, how many hives would you recommend starting with? I only had in mind one but I’m seeing start with 2 in a bunch of places for several reasons.

you should always wear a protective mask and true protective acid gloves for using formic acid

I have not treated my bees for varroa since the winter of 2007/2008 . As I go back to the year 1993 when varroa destroyed 75 % of the bee colonies all along the south coast of England and it took 11 to reach Scotland. If the varroa starts in one place it spread out in a circle effect which was not the case in England it started along 400 mile of the south coast and marched in a line towards the north of England and finally into Scotland. . I live in Hampshire England at lived through the next 4 yeasts of building up my bees. If you treat your bees then you stop the bees finding their methods of controlling the varroa . Also the varroa will modify their own production rate to live happily with the bees.? The varroa bodies are soft so the bees can kill the varroa we use to have the brawler mite when I first started beekeeping but they all died out when the chemicals came along with in 1993 as main land Europe had varroa before England. The brawler mite use to clean the bees of even smaller insects so it could be the varroa mite might be tolerated to do the same job as the brawler mite.

Try Vaporrub on cardboard to prevent Vora mites.

Some people also use setting eucalyptus leaves 🍃 to prevent mites.
