Archaeologists unearthed a surprising find while excavating an ancient Egyptian burial site.
On the West Bank of Luxor – where the ancient Egyptian city of Thebes once stood – archaeologists are hard at work. From the depths of a necropolis dating back to the 16th century B.C., they retrieve a wooden coffin that had been buried beneath the earth for thousands of years. When they look inside, they’re amazed by what they find.

Thebes did not stand on the West Bank, it was on the east bank. The valley of the kings and other ancient necropolises stood on the West Bank.
