"Stone tell" is for when you're talking to your stoned friend so you can understand his ramblings and gain infinite wisdom

Stone Tell is actually useful as yes, as part of the spell the stones are able to speak back. Can reveal things like what has passed their way, what may be hidden behind or under the stones...etc. Weather tell does NOT require a clear view of the sky, and is only affected if the weather is manipulated by magic. It also works on your level, 2 miles per level. Run is also useful as it allows you to run continuously for 1 hour per level. It can also affect another party member every 2 levels. So lets say they are 10th level, that would mean 5 party members could run continuously for 10 hours. It also states in the spell description that anyone affected by this spell does not need to sleep during this period and once the spell ends are just as "hearty and hale" as when they were first affected by the spell. No human being can do that naturally. Potentially, at 20th level, you could have 10 people running for 20 hours, and because they are just as hearty and hale as when the spell started, they could then continue to adventure for 8 or more hours before needing a long rest. The spell also ignores encumbrance.

No no no, you misunderstand. *I'm not the one who's going to run.*

"You can talk to the stones, but they have nothing to say back"

Well, in this same game we can talk to trees, and somehow they can actually answer. Stone tell can be the dungeon/mine version

You can also use Druid Craft to check the weather forecast too. 😂

Reminds me of a magic item, the Stone of Weathersense.

As an action, you can hold this stone up toward the open sky. Inspecting the stone after doing so will reveal information about the current weather. If it is raining, the stone will be wet. If it is sunny, the stone will be dry and slightly warm.

Stone Tell: In the Forgotten Realms (and other D&D worlds) the stone can actually speak back, dwarves use Stone Tell to ask questions for anything from tracking enemies to finding weakness/strength in the mines, finding ore veins, lava flows etc.

Weather Tell: When was the last time you predicted a Tornado an hour early? We STILL can't do it 😂😂😂

Run: Allows them to move faster, farther, and expend the same amount of energy

Trust me, the older editions were MORE balanced. Fight me on this

Well, here's a 4e one that would actually work in 5e, without much in the way of complaint. Command Water:
Target: A lake or a stretch of river that has a diameter in
miles of your Intelligence modifier or less.
Effect: Choose one of the following effects. The effect lasts
until your next extended rest or until you dismiss it as a
standard action.
􀀩 You reduce or increase the water’s depth by a number
of feet up to your Intelligence modifier.
􀀩 You create a dry path through the water. The path is
up to 30 feet wide and extends from one shore to the
other shore by the shortest distance, from your side of
the water to the opposite side.

Turning the old meme "Don't run, you'll only die tired!" into "Don't run, you'll only die with one less spell slot!"

Elves: "we are so magical"
Also elves: have spells for everything they can already to so they can feel magical

The best part about old editions of D&D, in particular AD&D (2e), is that they had a lot of non-combat spells with various strange effects.

Practically no spell was actually useless.

"Weather Tell" is meteorology, and the weather can definitely change within an hour.

Also, you, as the DM could easily make up something for a rock to tell the Player. By your logic here, "Speak With Plants" and "Speak With Animals" would never work.

I designed an encounter where my party fought an ancient Arch Lich that had access to previous edition spells. When players started losing levels they were shook

i have actually made in cannon lore for this stuff in my world. The different edition of DnD is because of reality getting rewritten. Like is a big deal in the Historical and archaeological Communities that has no impact on the player until they start asking silly questions. And the Current iteration 5.5 homebrew has occurred roughly around 200 years from when my stories take place. Elves and Dwaves can be like back in my day healing spells were way less effective and stuff.

So back in older editions of dnd objects somehow could hold memory at the dms discretion so a caster would talk to a stone itd be like "they went that way" and youd be like "bet" and chase the vagabonds trying escape your grasp or something

Funnily enough I could see elves working like this- as time grew magic also became more advanced, meaning elves that didn’t keep up with the times often had and clung to old outdated magic. Like parents and technology.

Run allowed you to run without the exhaustion aftermath and I think doubled your speed.
Stone Tell basically allowed you to speak to the stones to learn the memory imprinted on the land and honestly fairly useful to pick up clues to events of note that left an impact
