Magic Writing with Fire | Potassium Nitrate Combustion

Potassium nitrate is a strong oxidizing agent and is the main ingredient in Gun powder. When its saturated solution is applied onto a combustible material such as a sheet of paper, allowed to dry, and ignited with a burning splinter, it supports the combustion of the paper and sparks, leaving behind a trail of burnt paper (carbon) wherever the solution had been applied. This reaction is the basis behind this video's "Writing with fire" demonstration, and makes for a fun "magic" act!
