The Mamertine Prison, also known as the Tullianum, is located adjacent to the Roman Forum where the Apostles Peter and Paul were imprisoned before being taken to their deaths.
Part 2. On an upper level of the building our guide describes why the Apostle Paul was in the prison/jail after being judged by the emperor Nero. Our guide describes the model with the layers of the prison building and the plaques showing the names of the people who died. (The emperor Nero ordered the death of The Apostle Peter who was crucified upside down at the site of St. Peter’s square of today and the Apostle Paul was executed/beheaded at the site of the Church of Saint Paul at the Three Fountains.)
