Making PLA flexible? #3dprinting

I was able to get some unusual properties out of PLA filament with some special structures. Would you consider these to be metamaterials?

Fun fact: that spiral dome is basically how the suspension could on Sherman Tanks work, but with steel and formed in the extended position

a corrugated block with a normal 3d print in the middle, so once you look at it right you can see the hidden object which could be anything but I think a heart would be sweet

a corrugated container with a sleeve covering half of it, so you can twist it to either see what's inside or hide the contents, all without actually having to take the lid off

my favorite one by far is the pink and green one you used as a trampoline was really cool, i want to see that expanded upon for practical use.

I think it's more of a basket than a dish. A dish implies that it can hold not just solids but also liquids. A basket however is just for solids because the holes would leak out the liquids.

Make the corrugation expand out from a specific perspective, so it is completely hollow when viewed from a particular angle instead of only a part at a time.

Thank you for doing what you do Devin. It's appreciated and inspiring.

watching you rotate the corrogated ones around is what i imagine 4d vision would look like. sometimes able to see directly through an object or multiple objects depending on the angle

I just realized that designing these things are very simple to do. Literally a pattern extrusion from an angle or about an axis.

Another fun fact, the spiral dome exists inside almost every pull start for briggs and stratton lawn mowers, except they are made of spring steel. commonly called the recoil spring. Pretty fascinating spring function that we use very often

I will never not think of cool guy when I heard that background track

I could see these materials be incorporated into sports paddings and uniforms to make them safer.

You can use flexable solid prints for joints in robotic creations. You could take a flexable array of cylinders and make a small mattress that would act like memory foam and bend to the shape of your body to be extra comfy and supportive.

Imagine zero-g orbital factories manufacturing spaceship hulls using complex blends of materials bonded on the atomic level in a honeycomb structure like this… Glorious
This is a glimpse of the future, and I thank you for sharing it with us!

I think ur really onto something here for a type of hard meta material skin or armor for cosplay that has a lot more movement in it than the hex patterned armor or even the scale style. The green and pink printers would really nailed it for me. If you can design that as a type of elbow piece, then you can kinda have like the materials that need the band connected together and then everything else in the free space which is gonna be the armour plating for decoration.

Finally, I found this YouTuber. He gave me so much nostalgia.
