PSA: Hold the lid down when blending hot soups 😅

Loaded Baked Potato Soup

Ingredient:
- Yukon Gold Potatoes (11)
- Yellow Onion (1 1/2)
- Jalapeno (3)
- Garlic (8)
- Unsalted Butter (4 tbsp)
- AP Flour (6 tbsp)
- Garlic Power (2 tbsp)
- Onion Power (2 tbsp)
- Cayenne Pepper (2 tbsp)
- Paprika (2 tbsp)
- Dried Oregano (1 tbsp)
- Dried Parsley (1 tbsp)
- Chicken Stock (10 cups)
- Heavy Creamy (4 Cups)

I paused the video for this comment, Thank you for telling everybody "Once the smell of raw flour cooks off...". I can not stress this enough when teaching about a Roux. In my opinion, the #1 most important step. Just so everybody knows, it should smell nutty when the flour has cooked long enough

I don't love that this happened to you.

I do love that you were willing to show it.

Team immersion blender here, though I saw your comment explaining that it wasn't the best tool for this specific dish and texture. When I use my blender for hot things, i always take the center piece out of the lid, cover the hole with a folded towel or washcloth, and hold it all down whike blending. Also, I fill it less full. So much expansion with those danger liquids.

I hope that helps anyone. Stay safe.

This is exactly why I bought an immersion blender. I had a blender of hot potato soup blow up in my face. No lasting damage, but a strong lesson learned.

Okay, don’t fill a blender more than half full with hot liquid. Put the lid on loosely so steam can escape. Cover with a kitchen towel so the escaping steam and any flying hot liquid is contained safely.
Now I need to go make a bunch of potato soup for the freezer. =)
