Pigs were often used to clear dense patches of brambles in woodland. They are amazing animals

We had a pig who tried to eat me when I was 5. It ate my doll in one gulp while I was screaming and trying to get away. My dad rescued me. My dad didn't believe a well fed, big, fat pig would eat a plastic doll, but couldn't find it anywhere. Having seen how aggressively the pig was trying to get to me, he decided it was dangerous around kids, so butchered it the next day. He found the doll inside the pig's stomach. That night he and I both had nightmares about that pig.

"Them pigs'll eat briars, acorns, bodies of the hitchhikers I kill, brambles..."

"Wait what did you say??"

"Brambles"

"Oh..."

We had a herd of goats, and I had to shove a Kudzu leaf into the lead goats mouth. I saw the light bulb go off in her head. She then told the others, and they immediately ran into the Kudzu patch. They loved it.

You have a better understanding of family bond than most schools do.

I work at costco. We have a big locked recycling bin outside that we place all the excess produce (no proteins, animal product etc) that will be shipped off to a local pig farm. Strawberries, lettuce, apples, berries, potatoes, squash, whatever produce that might not be up to the costco standard to sell but is still edible. Nothing spoiled!

My ex wife and I had a pig that was intended for meat, but I would always escape his pen and come into the house to be around us and the kids. Was a very friendly and sociable animal

We have a lot of invasive seaweed in Kihei, Maui. I see washed ashore seaweed some are edible after a boiling, but my friend’s uncle sees free food for pigs. He goes to the beach, rakes them into a wheelbarrow, and feeds them daily. According to him, there’s like less than a dozen people like him that does that. It’s resourceful, and it’s extremely healthy for the pigs.

Pigs are a lot smarter than people give them credit for. Had a red hog(duroc) that would scare a bull into knocking open the gate to get away from him. He didn’t care about the bull he just realized it was big enough to knock open the gate and let him out. Kept finding the gate busted open and half the animals out in my pasture and was confused until I saw it happen myself. Had great success co-pasturing but I had to make that big mean sob his own enclosure 😂

I think all animals are smarter than we give them credit for.

Good idea, pigs are smart and can teach each other. Good things as well as bad habits.

I'll never forget leaving a coil of synthetic bailing twine in the pen where we'd housed a sow and her brood of piglets. Next morning after we'd finished milking, I walked past this pen and noticed dozens of little flourescent green blobs dotted all over the ground and couldn't figure out wtf they were for a few minutes.
Turned out that the piglets had found that bailing twine, eaten it as a group activity and then spent the night sprinting around their enclosure, doing glow-in-the-dark shits everywhere.

Thank goodness, finally somebody who doesnt keep their pigs in slop. For whatever reason people think that pigs like being filthy animals but theyre just extremely adaptable. Other than the occasional dirt bath from digging, pigs are naturally clean animals that dont like to live in their own feces but even if they do they will still eat and grow strong. Unfortnately some hog farmers see that as an opportunity to save a buck and feed them trash and keep em in enclosures that are way too small. You're doing it right and you seem to care about them. Cheers to you mate.

I like pigs the smartest animals I work with and very affectionate. They remember. I worked with a bore hadn’t seen him for 2 years we I came over he ran to me lays down so I could scratch his belly just like I’ve done since he was born. He’s a breading bore. He’s about 8 now

We raise free range chickens. At night, they go into their pen to roost and we close them up in order to protect them from raccoons, opossums, foxes, and coyotes. One night, we were short one chicken and thought that a predator had gotten it before they made it to roost. The next day, however, we found a loose chicken foot floating in our pig waterer. Apparently, it flew into the pig pen and the pigs were faster than the chicken.

Pigs are one of the smartest animals in the kingdom. One may not think so they way they’re usually filthy, but that’s due to them seeking out cool mud to lay in and chill down, as a result of them not having sweat glands. Don’t underestimate them, they are sharp, and much smarter than people give them credit for
