Andrew Wasson of Creative Guitar Studio answers a viewers question...
Q: I've been studying arpeggios and I keep hearing of a type called "Diatonic Arpeggios." Could you create a lesson covering what this type is and how we should practice them? From what I've read online they're really important. So, the theory of where they come from and any good practicing tips would be extremely helpful. Thanks for your websites!
Jerry - Buchanan, MI. (Michigan) USA
A: When it comes to, "Diatonic Arpeggios," what we're referring to here, are the arpeggios that occur upon every step of the basic major scale, or natural minor scale. For example, if I were to look at the, "C Major" scale, every scale tone has a diatonic arpeggio as triads, and for seventh chords. In this lesson, I'll run through the general music theory for these arpeggio types, and I'll demonstrate a few good ways to practice these arpeggios so that they can become memorized and eventually you can begin using them in your songs and for improvising.
